Schwarz Bruder
I think that when rap is done wrong, it is the worst genre of music. But there are so many rap bands and artists with a lot of talent. Bands like this.
say what you will about the rapping itself, I find it hard to believe that anyone who enjoys music wouldn't like the piano lying underneath in the song.

My gosh you took the words right out of my mouth. >_> I can't stand when people say all hiphop and rap is just people running around cursing, and what not. >_> There are other good songs besides those BRILLIANT songs (XD) Like Kanye West for example. All his songs have a message.

I heard Kanye West was ok. Never cared to listen to him myself though.

I'm bringing this topic back up because I can and you mods/admins can suck it. This board needs more topics besides Contests and "What are you listening to?" type of threads anyways. I initially didn't like Hip Hop/Rap too much, but it's seriously starting to grow on me. Lupe Fiasco and Blue Scholars are easily becoming my favorite artists of all time (more so Lupe Fiasco, but still). The Cool is such an incredible album. Usually when I listen to a new album, I listen to the songs like once and move on to the next. That's not a bad thing, I might like those songs. But when I first listened to this album, it took me forever to finish it, not because I didn't like it, but because every song I listened to was incredible. I played and replayed one song over and over again until I moved on to the next one. Do you ever get the feeling that you don't want to move to the next song because you're afraid it won't be as good as the one you're listening to? That's how I felt with The Cool, except my fears were baseless. Nearly every song on this album is incredible. I am extremely pumped for Lupe's next album. The same applies the The Long March EP by the Blue Scholars (to a lesser degree though). But I never thought I'd enjoy Hip Hop and Rap so much.

Lupe Fiasco certainly has purpose with his music; I'm glad you managed to find new music you like. Have you listened to any early 90s progressive hip-hop (Eric B., Rakim, Gang Starr, etc.)?

Not yet, though I do know a few my friends (and my sister) are into some of the ones you mentioned.

What songs in particular do you enjoy? And what made you start listening to Blue Scholars?

I love "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" and "Intruder Alert". ESPECIALLY the latter. I couldn't get enough of it. That's why I hate all these new chumps destroying the genre with their bullcrap nowadays. They make one catchy song with a solid beat but wack lyrics and everyone thinks its the best thing in the world. The worst part: said chumps are never heard from again after their couple of weeks of success with that one tune. There are a few newcomers, who rise to the surface and actually rep the genre well. Like Drake for example. If you like Lupe, Common may be worth a listen.
When I'm dead and gone, bury me upside-down so the world can kiss my ass.

I like a few rap songs, but of those there's less "rapping" and more "singing". I don't want to sound like I'm insulting rap but I can't find a better way of explaining it. A couple Kayne West songs (Stronger, Gay Fish), a couple Eminem (Lose Yourself, When I'm Gone). Overall, rap is one of my least liked types of music, just from the standpoint of how the vocals sound. Pretty much the only thing I "hate" more is whatever you call shrieking.
