I couldn't play it before because it's rated M. Ironically my parents are starting to care less and less and trust me more about playing M rated games regardless. >_>

MGS>MGS3>MGS2

I haven't played 4 yet. And all of them are amazing. MGS is perfection.

You suck, MGS2 > all.

MGS2 was awesome, don't get me wrong. I think it might be about a tenth of a point less enjoyable than MGS3, just because I personally loved all the things 3 added. But none of them will ever match MGS. That game was god, and there's only a handful of more enjoyable games ever made. IMO.

Not story-wise, MGS2 > all.

MGS comes second, 3 for third, and 4 for, well, fourth. >_>

I think I like MGS so much more probably because the boss battles were so amazingly awesome.

MGS2's bosses were okay (with the exception of the Metal Gear Ray fight, which was amazing)

MGS3's bosses were cool, but still no match for MGS's.

Getting myself chased by the guards is fun, especially on hard.

Getting back to the landmine-filled area after getting the Mine Detector is annoying because there's always a lame-ass guard in front of the door where I'm at. >_>

Wow, never mind. I just shot the guy before I even entered the room, got the Mine Detector, and left while he was still tranquilized. >_>

MGS4>MGS3>MGS2>MGS

They get better as they go.  MGS4 is truely amazing, MGS3 was great for a Prequel and bosses, I love MGS2, and MGS was the first game I got when I got a PS2.  I love them all.  They are all Perfection.  But 4 is the best.

I honestly don't know how people can put MGS3 below MGS2; I only played the Substance/Subsistence versions of thees games, and I found MGS3 to be superior in every way. While I appreciated 2's story-craziness, 3 had much cooler story elements in that they answered questions ''ve had since the beginning and I personally like alternate-past-realities in stories/games.

imo. Throwing a grenade into the barrel of a tank from yards away? 10-foot backflips? Holding onto the ceiling like Spiderman???? They are cooler, but almost at the cost of reasonability.

Well, if you like more possible cutscenes then you'd like the PS1 game better.

Yeah.  Like I said, I like 4>3>2>1.  I love all of them, but 3 is definitely one of the best.  Why IMO:  Hunting creatures, and trying all of the types of them to see if they heal/hurt you.  Story is great.  Boss fights are incredible (The End, and The Fury especially).  The cutscenes are amazing.  It's a good sized game.  The camoflauge system is cool.  It's more realistic, too, not like that matters, but when you get shot or burned, you don't just take a ration, and you are all better.  You have to actually cure yourself using ointments, knifes, bandages, antibiotics and such. And the last boss is just simply amazing the way they do it.

I found MGS2 hella more fun then MGS3. <_<

Wow...

Famitsu also gave FF12 a 40/40, and it's easily the worst FF.

Famitsu rewarded FF12 a 40/40 because it broke the wall of the typical turn-based RPG, especially when it's a Final Fantasy game. >_>

Besides, a lot of people loved that game. It's a love/hate game (I hated it though).

And it's pretty hard to get a perfect score from Famitsu. Don't they only give like one perfect score per console?

They're really starting to seem easier to get perfect scores from, like most review sites and magazines these days really. Then again back in the day Gamespot gave Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 a 10/10......but then again it's Gamespot...so I dunno.

OH MY GOD!!! I can beleve that Big Boss was still alive and that he was rebuilt using liquid and solidus.... And that all the good guys from 3 turned out to be the patiots. Also the shadow moses island part was awesome the old memories and getting to pilot rex was awesome.... I can't believe Vamp used nano machines and other technology to do the stuff I thought was supernatural.... also I laughed hard at psycho mantis's ghost....

MGS2 he does that.  I got freaked out when he did that the first time I played that one, probably 4 years ago....  lol.  Good story though.  I understand it, but it is complicated.  You have to play part 4 to truly understand everything.

MGS3 is great, but so far I don't think I can place it above the other two. Then again, I'm near the beginning, so I should give it a better chance.

It's complex at times but here a simple version.

Obvious spoilers....

MGS3
During WW2 the allied nations form a group called the philosophers, they all die by the end of the war and Volgen managed to get their money. The Boss was sent as a spy to get the money back, volgen used the american warhead on russian land meaning the mission changed and she'd have to be killed after completing it (though I believe that that was set up from the start). Eva was a spy for the chinese to get the money but failed to do so. Ocelot (adam) was an american spy sent to get the money and did so.Big boss/naked snake was merely a pawn in this and was really just sent to make it look legit and kill the boss.

I never played this one but I heard that fox unit revolts and big boss slowly forms foxhound while trying to clear zero's name (of the revolt). Anyway Zero forms the patriots after this trying to do what he thought the boss wanted. the other patriots were big boss and the mgs3 supporting characters. Zero raises BB's reputation to a jesus like figure. 0 and BB disagree on what the boss would have wanted. 0 creates clones of BB because he's afraid BB would leave, eva gives birth to the twins, bb leaves because of this.

mg1+2
big boss forms outer haven to take on 0 and make a world were soldiers would always be needed. snake joins foxhound and bb sends him to take down outer haven because he thinks snake would fail, snake wins. bb tries again and is almost burt to death by snake and believed to be dead.

mgs
liquid is "manipulated" by solidus (or so he thinks) to lead a revolt with foxhound and the genome soldiers. Demands are bb's remains so he can cure any genetic illness (ie growing old before his time). he knows it's a set up by the patriots. snake gets foxdie set to kill him at a random time (revenge from naomi for "killing" grey fox) which kills liquid in the end. ocelot tortured the darpa chief(sigint from mgs3) and kills him because he is a patriot and ocelot is really trying to help bb take zero down. grey fox becomes a ninja through the help of dr. clark (aka paramedic from mgs3 a patriot), grey fox kills her.

About roy's weird messages in mgs2.
he's AI of course and part of GW too hence the virus affecting him but you knew that. when rose calls you in arsenal and says she's pregnant that is actually her the rest isn't. when fighting solidus the AI switches to JD the head AI of the patriots.

The Main Theme from MGS2 kinda grew on me.

I can't really choose any characters as my favorites.

I like Big Boss in general.... Young he's like (Well he is in a way) Snake and old he's like Solidus without the suit and the tentacles plus on top of all of that he's the original Snake and the most influential character in the whole series.

Solidus was cool too.... That awesome suit aside he's like Big Boss, fighting against the Patriots although he does so in a poor way that he ends up being used by them.

Ocelot is pretty awesome.... Probably should flag for SPOILERS!! He's like Big Boss's right hand man. Ocelot managed to bring down the Patriots and bring back Big Boss, he manipulated the Patriots himself and used their own pawn against them. He's the second biggest influence on the series, he helped Zero form the Patriots and end the Philosophers, he was really pulling the strings in 1 and 2.

Snake was always just a pawn of both the Patriots and Big Boss. Ocelot manipulated him into taking down JD without realising it and the Patriots used him to spread Foxdie to Big Boss and Eva. The only game he wasn't a pawn of somebody's was in 2.

The Boss could be considered the most important character, well at least her death can be considered the moment the trouble began.

I'd say.....The Boss, Big Boss, and Solidus all helped continue the whole series in that order.

Ocelot ment to kill the real DARPA chief because he was really Sigint from MGS3 and an original member of the Patriots still loyal to Zero.

There has been some strange twists in the series, yet no conversation, no revelation, nothing else in the series had ever made me say "What the **** was that?" more than Sigint telling us about his dream.


Ocelot, Ocelot, Ocelot. Revolver Ocelot, by far and away. He never had the most eventful boss battles, but there was never a more badass character in the series than Ocelot.

Ocelot's pretty badass, but I prefer Solidus' dialogue and way of fighting more.

Solidus was awesome, prolly my second favorite character in the series followed by Johnny Sasaki. >_>

Lulz Johnny, three games straight doing humorous one-time things and then getting a big role in the final game. >_>

Solidus is my favorite of the Snakes, to be honest.

Now that I think about it, he's just about even with Liquid, it depends really.

I still like Solid Snake the best. Stereotypical or not, he's the man.

Solidus is just loaded with crap to kill people with, well not counting if Solid Snake has weaponspace or not with all the crap he carries around. >_>

Can't say I liked the boss battles in MGS3 more than the other two games. The End was epic though, and so was the Shagohod. The Fear and the Fury were very easy though. I honestly found the whole Cobra Unit to be a tad underdeveloped compared to the bosses in previous games (besides the Boss and the Sorrow, of course). Their boss fights weren't bad though, just not as good as the boss fights in the previous games.

But overall, I'd have to say REX, RAY, and Psycho Mantis.

I liked the music REX had in the PS1 game. >_>

Yeah, the living members of the Cobra Unit all were reduced to the standard of "I have no role, no past, no backstory, I'm going to fight you, then die, leaving behind no evidence of who I was."

And The Fear is a ***** if you're going for a stamina kill.

I went for a stamina kill on all of them. The Fear was annoying at first, but I somehow managed to shoot him very quickly when he was planning on eating something. He got very predictable and I was eventually able to catch up to whatever branch he jumped to.

Volgin (the character, not the actual fight) was such a bastard though. I'm glad he died the way he did. With a bolt of lightning frying that son of a *****. He really pissed me off when he got those cheap hits on Snake.

I liked FOXHOUND in MGS1 the most. Dead Cell's theme was really nice though. Cobra Unit was unlikeable IMO.

If you're being serious, you're probably the only person around who thinks that. I mean, I tolerate him, and just for that, I'm in the vast minority.

I actually found all of the bosses (except the End and The Boss, go figure) to be very easy to get Stamina Kills on. I beat MGS3 on European Extreme and managed to get every bosses camo and (in The End's case) weapon.

For the fear, just throw some poisoned/spoiled food out into the middle of the area. Just put on the thermal goggles, shoot him with tranqs and he'll eventually hunt for food to refil his stamina. He'll almost always go for the food you left, get poisoned and start throwing up. Just keep tranquing him and he'll go down.

The End is the most difficult to stamina kill though; getting his rifle makes SKing The Fury, Volgin and The Boss way easier though.

Fatman was cool, I liked his dialogue. But I like the other Dead Cell members better.

Minor spoilers on the mgs4 bosses though they have no back story to spoil....

The Beauty and the Beast unit are alot like the Cobra unit.... They have pretty genric back stories and no speaches for their deaths.

The B&B corps are sorta cool and hot (after they shed the suit).... And it's cool how they use past bosses to influence their names and weapons.

Laughing Octopus uses Decoy Octopus and the Joy/the Boss for the name while for weapons she uses Solidus' tentacles (not in the same way though).

It's pretty much the same for the rest, an action associated with the Cobra unit, an animal name from Foxhound and a weapon based on Dead Cell's weapons.

Raging Raven is the Fury, Vulcan Raven and Fatman (explosives but is a grenade launcher).
Crying Wolf is the Sorrow, Sniper Wolf and Fortune (Yes she has that gun More Serious Story Spoilers!!                                                 You can get it too!!). She's the Sniper boss in this because you can't get near her and you fight her where you fought Sniper Wolf both times.
Screaming Mantis is the Fear, Psycho Mantis and Vamp (Knives). She also has these cool dolls that allow her to control both the living and the dead, bearing that in mind guess who the two dolls are based on....

I thought he was crazy as ****, which I love, and the whole finding bomb things while fighting him was fun.

Vamp was cool as well.

I didn't like Fortune that much, although she did have a rail gun, which propels her coolness factor up by a lot.

Besides Solidus, I actually liked Fortune the most. >_>

I wouldn't say she's a bad character at all, but something about her just keeps me from liking her as much.

Maybe its because Sniper Wolf was a way cooler female member of a terroist team...

It could be Fortune's more drama-based storyline that you aren't a fan of.

I enjoyed her backstory quite a bit.

Maybe it was because she doesn't have a legitimate boss fight.

MGS4.  He makes an appearance and everything is just hilarious.  Especially Campbell when he goes "Plug your controller in to port 2.  Wait...  No port 2?!  I....  I don't know what to do....

Well, I used a Chaff and tried to tranq him, but both bars still went down. I'm afraid to try anything else, because one more hit, and he's done.

Whatever, I just killed him. I don't really care anymore. If it counts, then one kill shouldn't really be anything to stress over.

All right, I just e-mailed Konami.com and requested for a Return Authorization number. I don't care about the Limited Edition bundle. I'll just get the normal MGS4 bundle for 80GB. It's 100 bucks less, so yeah.

I know the story, and I have to say that I liked MGS2 and MGS3's better.

The story, while it is incredibly important, isn't the only thing that makes MGS so good.

You know, just reading about the story isn't going to give you the same overall feeling than when you play the game. I won't guarantee that it'll make a huge difference, but you should give it a real playthrough before forming an opinion. It's not really giving the game a chance.

I'm already going to get MGS4, so therefore I am giving the game a chance.

I want to have the Essential Collection by next week, but such a small inconvenience like paying for PS2 memory cards is hindering me <_<

I'm buying a used PS2. A used PS2 and the Essential Collection is only $120, but memory cards can run me an additional $30 unless I use Amazon. My friend might still have his PS2 memory card though, even though his PS2 broke, so it's worth a shot.

If push comes to shove I can just try to run through MGS1 without saving and never turning the console off. I never turn it off anyway, I'd just be afraid of a freak accident screwing me over.

There's also the possibility of emulating the first game.

Or you could just somehow find Twin Snakes online (it's nearly impossible to find in stores now >_>) and play it on your Gamecube. That's just a remake of MGS1, except some people didn't like it because the cutscenes are really Matrix-y and not as Metal Gear Sold-y.

Emulating the game would be stupid though. >_>

Except buying Twin Snakes costs a lot more than buying a PS1 memory card <_<

And it's not like there'd be any technical issues with emulating the first game. There would be moral issues yeah, but with some tinkering I was able to get Mega Man Legends 2 to run smoothly, and I have a PC gamepad.

Holy crap, I hate it in Metal Gear Online when your teammates on Team Deathmatch decide for no reason to CQC you, then kill you when your down. I had some jackass named Gerald, and we lost because he kept CQCing everyone on his own team (which I was on).

When I get a PS3, I say we all make our own team.

I'm starting to love MGS3 as much as I love MGS4. I really can't pick between the two (I'm talking about single player. If it were overall, I'd have to pick MGS4 for Online, of course). Hmm...

I really can't pick. I think my final overall opinion on the MGS games would have to be:

MGS4 = MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS

They're all amazing, but MGS3 and MGS4 are truly the best IMO.

I consider MGS2's storyline more interesting to me, plus it had Solidus one of the most badass badasses to walk this side of Badassville.

I really wish Solidus didn't die, I mean there was a slight chance he could've survived the fall and escaped police autopsy labs, but then MGS4 had to go and confirm that he did die. Assholes, meh who knows? They might remake MGS2 later this coming decade.

Dead Cell was too meh-ish, though, with the exception of Solidus.

I liked Fortune, Vamp was okay but he was a bit over-the-top...as was Fatman sorta.

Fortune was meh-ish and unspectacular, and had the worst boss battle in the series, and Vamp and Fatman weren't interesting at all.

Johnny is already playable on MGO2.

They killed him off because he wasn't even needed anymore. Plus, they needed a plot device to show that Big Boss didn't die, and well, Solidus looks exactly like him. Who else are they gonna use? Fatman? Besides, he's not really the main villain of the series. >_> I really like Solidus too, but I'm not surprised by his death. It made the ending more satisfying overall.

I know he did that one thing before entering Arsenal, but he did so little in MGS2 that he wasn't worth caring about. I'm going to guess that his role in MGS4 was incredibly minor as well.

Actually, it's probably bigger than his role in MGS2.
