So, what is new about it? Are they just remaking it for funzies or is there a new story?

The rumors I heard say that instead of having a different storyline, it's going to use the storyline of the manga.

However, I have no clue how true these rumors are. That's just what I heard.

If it's the manga, I may watch just for the correct Wrath.

Hopefully it will be based off of the manga. The anime is great, but the manga is just infinitely superior.

I'll be interested to see if the appearances are revamped or if they remain the same.

If it's based more on the manga, that'll be cool. I mean, I love the anime, but the manga's plot is a bit better IMO. Hopefully they'll have the original voice cast and etc.

Infinitely better was actually an exaggeration.

The anime is fantastic. I love it. But the manga is still better. The ending to the movie grew on me, but I just want this series to be based off of the manga.

Mustang looks pretty ugly. >_>

Anyways, I think it's pretty safe to assume it's based off of the manga.

FMA Anime spoilers

Colonel Mustang still has his eye, and Al is still in a metal suit. Unless something random happens, then I doubt it'll be any continuation of the manga.

Mustang's face is wider. >_>
Why would they do that?
I'm sure he'll still be my favorite character though.

How do the two differ story-wise?

Excellent. That's where I stopped watching the show.

I hate one-time run shows. You miss one episode and you're screwed for the series.

There were still major differences in the beginning of the anime that affects events that happen in the anime-exclusive portion of the series. I think they'd have to start all over. Here are some of those differences:

Definite first-half anime spoilers and slight manga spoilers:
The events in Laboratory 5 with Ed meeting the "new" Tucker and about to create the Philosopher's Stone, Hughes discovering that the Furor's secretary with actually Sloth, Ed and Al's reason for going to Tucker's house, Al meeting up with Scar after the events of Laboratory 5, etc Also, the characters' reactions to things are significantly different. Winry never got mad with Ed after he used alchemy in that arm wrestling contest, and Al never ran away from the hospital.
End.

Well, not really, but I was surprised. For a while, I had been speculating that Ed's dad was Pride, but I decided against that quickly. Still, I never would've thought that Bradley's "son" was Pride all along.

Well, considering how Father's current form was created from Hohenheim, that's not really surprising. Especially how Father still seems to hold some kind of respect for Hohenheim. I feel kind of bad for Hohenheim, actually.

Or at least there should be some kind of grading system before they're submitted. Either that, or we could form some kind of guild of Assassins that specialized in AMV creators. That might work. Hell, at least we'd get a lot of business.

Meh, I don't mind certain combinations just as long as
A: They're of acceptable quality. Bad AMV's deserve to burn along with their creators.
B: There aren't too many of the same type, with the same song/scenes/pacing. If the creators can't at least be a little original, then they don't deserve to be there.

1. Yes, that's exactly how I think of them and that song. It's an okay song, but the fact of the matter is that it's THE best thing they've EVER done. And that's sad. And on another note, that AMV was awesome. Too bad about the picture quality though.
2. Yes, it's an awesome AMV. However, it's still a ridiculous anime.

An AMV is not bad becuase you don't like the band. If you don't like my chemical romance, you won't like AMV's USING my chemical romance's songs. But they're not necessarily bad. If you don't like Linkin park, you won't like AMV's with Linkin park songs. Obviously. But not necessarily bad.

Any AMV, can use ANY song and be the best AMV ever, as long as:

A) The song fits. If you're making an AMV about a sad scene, don't use upbeat metal songs. Use something slow and sad, perhaps orchestrated for added effect.
B) Good editing. You can't just take a scene, cut it up a bit, add a song and call it a day. THat does NOT WORK. It's sloppy, and it's boring to watch. Make sure the edits happen in beat with the music, at the very least.
C) Effects. This isn't a requirement per say, but it makes your AMV SOOOO MUCH BETTER if used properly IMO.

Case in point:

This AMV combines an overused anime, with an overused song. LULZ EPIC FAIL M I RIHT? But it's good, because the AMV creator clearly took his time with it, and made a good AMV, despite the overused material.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xGc-Ui9Fi0&feature=related&fmt=18

Quality sucks baboon ass, I know, but it's a reupload. A few years ago, I could've found it in much higher quality, but alas...

On the other hand, IMO, this is a very mediocre AMV:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUGDovJxaEY&fmt=18

IT doesn't really edit much, and only sometimes follow the beat of the music... it's okay, but very adequate, and not very special.

Again, example of an (IMO) good AMV (only the first 1:10. After that, it's just a still picture with no music for some reason.:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X71GUoCSJ5k&feature=related&fmt=18

Clever edits, nice effects and fitting music. Thought went into it, thus it comes out nice (even though the lack of ANYTHING for the last 2 minutes are fail)

I can dislike an AMV but I can't consider it bad? An AMV can have good editing, effects, and all of that other stuff, but that doesn't mean it's objectively good. Nothing can be objectively good. There's a difference between things being well-done and things being "good." I can find a book to be very well-written, but I can also be turned off by the storyline. Same goes for an AMV. I can find it well-done, but that doesn't mean I have to consider it good if I don't like the music or subject material. And it's worse when people just add a bunch of scenes with editing them and plaster them with some random song without any editing.

You're saying that some AMVs that are well-made cannot be bad. I'm saying that being good or bad isn't an objective thing. >_>

Title: Re: The new FMA anime premieres in April.

Well made AMV's can't (or at least, shouldn't) be "bad" in the general sense. If an AMV is well made, the majority (should, not will) like it. Like a videogame. A well made videogame may be disliked by some people, but the majority will like the game, thus it's a "generally" good game. I think the Resident evil games are bad, because I don't like survival horror. But a lot of people like the games and the franchise, so I can use logic to reason that the games and the franchise is generally good.

And yeah, I realize I didn't make myself clear... I meant generally, not that every person would find a well made AMV good. Sorry about that.

Great episode. It's good that they aren't making it redundant with the first 20 or so episodes in the first anime by making it different. Apparently that ice alchemist was in the manga, but I don't really remember him.

The opening songs and ending songs should be switched though, but whatever. They're good.

Interesting how Lior isn't in a desert anymore though.

Yeah, I figure the final battle is going to involve Ed and Al, but still, Izumi has to be one of the top characters in the manga, ranking at least 3rd behind Father and Hohenheim. She can take out the homonoculi, possibly even Pride, and she survived for years without certain organs.

So, is Hohenheim, powered by the souls of 300,000 people going to be able to beat Flask? For the sake of narrative, I'm guessing probably not, though I really can't see Ed or Al doing anything to him at all.

I don't think Mr. Flask will be defeated as conventionally as the other humonculi were defeated. And did Pride take over Kimblee's body? I can't really remember...Basically the humonculi we have left are Wrath, Pride, and Greed.

Title: Re: The new FMA anime premieres in April.
Post by: Gaffit on 12 July, 2009, 03:25:24 am
Yeah, I don't really see Flask being taken down in a fight, especially since the only thing that saved Hohenheim was his immortality so far.

So far, Pride has consumed Kimblee and Gluttony, gaining both of their powers. He's one hell of a powerhouse, and I feel sorry for the poor sap that gets matched against him. Though I'm hoping it's Izumi, just because she specializes in kicking the crap out of kids.

Hm, Izumi already went up against Sloth (albeit that being a very short fight >_>), so I feel like she won't fight Pride. Maybe Al? Also, did Pride take Kimblee's body or is he still in a kid's body? I have forgotten so much of FMA thanks to this monthly updating.

I'm pretty sure he's still a kid, since he didn't change form after consuming Gluttony, though it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that he could. But that's kind of cool that's he's the badass in shorts.

Speaking of Al, where is he? He wasn't with Ed when he confronted Mustang.

I like how pretty much everyone introduced in this episode is a future badass.

Lin merges with Greed, Lan Fan gets an outrageously awesome automail after only 6 months, and May Chang is one of the few people actually capable of fighting Flask and is the only user of ranged alchemy. The only person who doesn't end up badass is Fu. But nobody really likes him.

Fu isn't bad. I don't really like May Chang though.

Her personallity bugs me at times, but when she gets in a fight, she can pull off some pretty crazy stunts. Like her ranged alchemy minefields.

Depressing episode is depressing...

The next one is gonna be good, I mean, I hated it when I first read it, but after I knew it's significance in the grand scheme of things, it becomes a very smart episode.

Episode 19....... win. Absolute soul-punching-to-the-core-mother-**** win.

The scene where Mustang owns the **** out of Lust is one of my favorite moments in the series, and the anime version did it more than just justice IMO.

Also, I love the opening now. The song has grown on me, and now I love it.

I get mine (and for that matter all my anime) from animetake.

We've never really seen Fung (think that's the old guy's name) in action before, so it'll be interesting to see if the old man surpasses his granddaughter in terms of combat skill. Either way, Wrath is going to be a tough as hell opponent. He's basically the guy from Next...

And of course there's always Pride-Kimblee-Glut.

Also, the show's been kicking ass left and right really. I really like the theme songs both opening and closing and the plot moving along pretty quick.

Wrath didn't die. He's only got one life. I think he mentioned that when he was killing Greed the first time around. So now he's fighting with a perma-hole in his stomach against a pissed-off Greedling.

Ep. 26, with Ed kicking down the Door to goddamn Truth just to tell Alphonse' body and mind that he'd be back for him while being dragged back by the forces of the Gods themselves. If that's not a crowning moment of awesome, I don't know what is.

About the latest chapter (Should I just make a separate topic for the manga?)

Scar just took, like, five levels in badass! It makes sense too, now that he's forgiven the Alchemists, he's essentially free to utilize his full alchemical powers, which is even stronger than Izumi's possibly because he doesn't even have to make a circle. It's possible he also has Ming's ranged alchemy as well, meaning he could just stand there and perform both destructive and reconstruction. Poor Bradley is so so screwed.

Also I laughed at Mei taking on the Father by herself. Though I know she will no doubt prove crazy useful against him, I just don't see her saving the day.

And I don't understand what happened to Pride... Did he have to see the gate too? If so, what could they have possibly taken away from him? He could simply his stone's energy like Envy did couldn't he?

I like the new opening and credits, very badass, even though it reveals some stuff that shouldn't be revealed. I'm glad they're giving proper focus the Selim Bradley for being such an unstoppable beast.

Ah, that, well as far as the Manga is concerned it hasn't been brought up again. Though I don't think it did much damage to his lifespan.

And with those last two chimeras introduced, I think the roster is complete!

Ok... so it's kind of a plot hole then?

Complete as in there are no more new characters?

I wouldn't call it a plot hole, it's mostly just that within the show, Ed doesn't get old enough that it would affect him.

I think that's all the major players. There are ton of people introduced in the end, but mostly extras.

Hohenheim = Very Badass.

Especially when you find out what happens every single time he uses alchemy.

Another fine episode. The interaction between the Armstrongs is priceless.

I'm surprised they kept Ed out of the show for two whole episodes. What must the fangirls think?

Woo! Marcoh finally brings out the badass in him! The dude is an Anti-Homonculus tank, or any Philosopher Stone user really.

And the plot is really picking up fast.

Also, the rest of this post is about the latest turn of events in the manga, read at your own risk:

GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED! The expression on Ed's face was priceless, I bet he's never been happier to see a homoculus. It's a shame he wasn't able to do much. So the final fight is Izumi, Al, Ed, Roy, Hohenheim, May, Greed and a single baby panda vs. The physical embodiment of God and what's left of Selim. Awesome.

Also I'm pissed that we didn't get to see the end of Scar's fight with Bradley, unless Scar's still alive somehow.

My personal theory is that Greed ends up absorbing Advent's power, or at least replacing the current Truth if everyone's brought back somehow. Think about it, Greed would make an awesome God. His one fault? Greed. And that would be pretty done away with once he physically owns everything. Mix that with his fierce protection of anything he owns and Ling's leadership skills and you have one badass deity on your hands.

Probably the best episode yet.
The Armstrong Scene may have been the funniest in any anime I've seen.
Greed is the man.
Shao May is retarded.
Credits were cool too.

GREEEEEEEDLIIIIIIIING! This episode is automatically my new favorite, just because he was in it. Any episode after this that also features Greedling is also my favorite.

FMA has one rule. It is very simple to follow, but you must follow it:

Do NOT **** with Olivia or Izumi. You will be dead in seconds.

And yeah, not May's finest hour. Though it looks like both sides are finally mobilizing for final battle. There's still quite a bit of content left, but this is where **** starts getting real.

In spite of the tsunami warning that was overlaid on the right half of the screen for the entire episode, that was pretty good, though not as action packed as of late.

And if it hasn't been said already, Grumman is pretty cool.

Pride gets busy next episode.

Hehehe, the plans all come together, both sides haven't exactly been relaxing over the time skip. Looks like the start of the finale arc starts next episode. This is gonna be awesome! And they're starting with the manga only a couple chapters from completion, excellent timing.

And yeah, Prides kind of a dick...

Ah, Pride showcasing his cheap-ass abilities. At least he had the decency to attack this late into the manga where the characters actually stand a chance against him.

The opening's alright. I don't like the credits though.

Wow, they set up all the fights up pretty quick. And Alphonse has just gained another level in badass. I'm starting to think that poor Ed might never catch up...

And May is pretty badass as well. I mean, sure she made a deal with the devil and got screwed over like we all knew would happen, but the way she was kicking those zombie's asses for awhile...

This month's chapter literally shat awesome. I have no idea how they're gonna top this next month. I simply don't. It's all come together into such a beautiful cacophony of "Holy ****!"

Pride getting taken down by Kimblee who distracted him enough that Ed could turn himself into a goddamn Philosopher's Stone and invade Pride's body brought tears to my eyes. Looks like this series still has a bit of build-up till the finale. I cannot wait.

If it wasn't for the fact that some people some people still hadn't read the manga, I would so make a profile of a certain someone giving his badass adieu.

Then what the Hell are you waiting for? You said you can't watch until Thursdays. Why is that?

But my internet doesn't suck so much that streaming should be that devastating... Aside from hiccups when first opening firefox, it runs smoothly and loads quickly.

So yeah. That episode was pretty badass.

I hate Envy for killing Hughes (hurdurf spoilers everyone knows), and yet I love him so much for some reason. I love watching him be a manipulative jerkass, I love watching him scream in pain whilst being burned to death over and over again, and yet he still managed to have a somewhat pitiable death. He's a pretty cool dude.

That stupid CG true form was ass looking though. Probably would have been better animated.

His true form was supposed to be hideous, so I don't really fault the CG, to be perfectly honest.

Post by: Rai on 27 April, 2010, 07:27:57 pm
Well yeah I guess, but it just seemed so low-tech, even though it really wasn't. The motions were so obvious and it almost looked choppier than the animation. They use CG on the mannequins too, but it's not really as noticeable because they animate them when they're doing... Anything... The CG just makes the staggering crowds of them look better, and you can only tell they're CG by the shading.

Yeah. I just kinda see it as Bones's shtick. I don't think it really detracts from the show.

Oh no, not at all.

Yeah, I thought that episode focused a bit too much on Envy, but it was still pretty damn good for an episode that for the most part took place in a hallway and one room.

Title: Re: The new FMA anime premieres in April.
Post by: I_like_Nonon on 29 April, 2010, 04:42:38 pm
Envy was a grade A sadistic dick, but I can't help but feel a little sorry for him, in the end.

Title: Re: The new FMA anime premieres in April.
Post by: Random on 29 April, 2010, 06:42:37 pm
But if focused on Envy's death. I could watch three straight episodes about that.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHRUR IS GOING TO KILL PEOPLE NEXT WEEK

Also, Sig and Armstrong were made to fight with each other. Simply stunning.

Ah, the Fuhrer fight, that's easily my favorite fight in the whole series. It basically involves all my favorite characters.

And goddamn, I would never, ever, ever, ever mess with that couple.

So, the manga's gonna end on its next chapter, next month. (the second to last just came out, but the scanlations are ass from what I've seen. I read 'em anyway though <_<).

I've been following the manga since I caught up with Brotherhood a few episodes back, but I dunno if I wanna not read the manga ending and just watch it in the anime, since they're going to end in such close proximity, and this just released chapter I know'll be awesome animated.

hmmm

@ The Manga: ;~; Ed is going to beat the **** out of Father. It had better be the greatest damned curbstomp battle in the history of Fullmetal for what Al sacrificed. I'm not sure if the next one's gonna be the last though. Seems like it might end too soon with too many unanswered questions. Maybe an epilogue would suffice. And for the love of God, someone fetch spirit Al a sammich!

And Mustang using clap alchemy was badass.

I'm hoping for Ed to pound on him for a while, then use what's left of him to summon back Al...

So i read the manga, and...

...Holy. ****. BALLS.

I'm hoping for this too. And as predictable as Greed "just wanting friends" was, I think it worked pretty well.

Also @ Manga:Not only do I think Arakawa said she wanted to end it was 208, pretty sure a scan from the manga said that the next chapter would be the last. It's pretty hard to be one chapter away from the ending and not let anyone know. You'd wanna hype it up. The content 'concerns' were temporarily alleviated by a rumour that the last chapter would be 150 pages long, but that's more or less not true... it could still be pretty long though.

And as for Al, something tells me it's gonna be Hohenheim who brings back Al.

Plus the Greed thing isn't really jarring at all if you think about Hohenheim's earlier accusation that father's creation of the homunculus was related to wanting friends and family. Thus, the Greed he extracted from himself would pretty much encompass the same feelings.

I wonder who would win in a fight, Izumi or Wrath. They're both absolutely bestial while still remaining relatively normal. They both simply have peak human speed and strength with Izumi having alchemy and Wrath having his eye.

I lol'd at the break when the crazy guy's name was just "Gold Toothed Doctor."

Other than the main event, crowning moment of awesome for Fu and Buccaneer.

'twas indeed a good episode. It sounds really snobby and spoiled, but the manga scene where we see what's happened to Mustang was more dramatic I think <_<

And yup, **** be hitting the fan indeed... next episode seems to be the episode where everyone dies.

I'll admit, the pictures at the end filled me with childish glee, seeing Havok walking again, seeing Hayate's puppies, seeing Ling on a pimpin' throne, and of course, seeing May with Al and Winry with Ed and their kids.

EdxWinry conclusion. I am a terrible **** sucker for romance subplots, so that was the best part for me. Seeing them with children was just even better. The only thing that could have made the ending even better, was a true confirmation of RoyxRiza.

Overall I was very pleased with this ending to one of my favorite series ever... I'll definately be checking out Hiromu Arakawas next manga, when and if she makes one.

I'd go so far as to say that it was at the very least heavily implied.

And yeah, whatever Arakawas writes next, I will definitely follow.

Yeah, but it had been heavily implied throughout the entire series. I don't think Arakawa ever explicitely stated it.

Still, it's extreme nitpicking, and doesn't detract from anything in the slightest.

So I went back and read Ch. 107 again, and I took a really close look at this page: (Don't worry, no spoilers)

The arm coming out of the upper right.

Also the arm coming out of the left center. It's a small nod, but it's enough for me. I still need to make that profile. Maybe after the next couple episodes of Brotherhood come out...
