Title: Automatic logging out of users problem. Explanation?
Post by: Bored_Man on 30 December, 2008, 10:15:13 am
As I've found out, I'm not the only one with this problem. BP seems to have a tendancy to automatically log me out when only about 5 or minutes have passed without me posting. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but when it does it constantly, it gets to be very annoying.

Is it possible to fix this?

I'm having the same problem. I don't think it's anything that's fixable by us as I'm sure no one has altered it to be that way. I think we may be able to ask SMF for an explanation about the problem though.

All right, thank you.

Here's a tip I found on the help site about a similar issue:

Try checking your settings against these.

Make sure 'Use a persistent connection' is turned  off

Default login cookies length (in minutes) =  60

Enable local storage of cookies(SSI won't work well with this on.) turned off

Use subdomain independent cookies(turn off local cookies first!)   on

Enable compressed output  on

Use database driven sessions  on

Allow browsers to go back to cached pages on

Seconds before an unused session timeout  2880

I'll check to see if these are what we're using, but I think we may need an admin to view them.

Have you guys gone to that "Forum Maintenance" Thing in administrator? there's a "Find and fix errors" button thing...maybe if you use that....

Same. It's a force of habit now because youtube always used to mess up after I typed up long comments.

I too do this.

Just have a topic where everyone posts when this happens to them while you tweak the site settings.

I actually do this about once a month at least.
Trust me, that's not the issue.

Dunno if this would be any help, but just putting this out there, as we would be eligible:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=261952.0

...crap...now if I only had posts there, I would feel like I would be able to do that...<_<

it would seem I'd be the only one eligible to do it...as it's only for the owner...

I know...I'll add it onto my to-do list for the new year

*looks at to-do list and sees that is dangerously close to the point of toppling over*

yeah...but I don't want to subversively force people to do it
I want people to do it that actually want to do it...

You don't have to force anyone.

In this case, I disagree.

Sasori, **** ask about that "big board" forum - make an account on the simple machines forum and do whatever you have to do get s a spot on it. Do something about it the next time you read this, because if you're reading this, then you're on this site and you don't have anything more important to do in real life at the moment.
