^ That's awesome.

Seeing this at the every bottom of the board depressed me.

So, aside from my minor Samurai Shodown obsession, nothing exciting has happened recently. I'm drawing some reptilian crap and will probably resume Okami later tonight.

The whole ship was creepy , as were a few other parts (that busty scribe girl [its been a long time since I played it...] turning out to be a demon and you finding her body in the bottom of the well stood out to me).

Title: Re: Forest Maze.

The giant hands were a little creepy at first, but the ghosts flying into your face and staring into your soul was definitely the scariest part by far.

So, something possessed me to try to beat Ninja Gaiden (NES).

Level 6 is like Hell. I get to the boss, die, and have to start the level all over again.

...But wait...

...

Thank god, I finally beat him.

Hold on, what...?

And I died. Again.

What's the problem, any more exactly than "It keeps demanding reboots"? Does it always do it on the running of a certain program, or after a certain amount of time?

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: IngSlayer on 23 July, 2009, 05:15:09 pm
Anytime I turn it on, it loads for around a minute before the message shows up. It never gets any further than the Apple logo (Start up screen). If left on for a minute (Or so) longer, it shuts itself off.

My mother (The one who was given the Mac) was told that the problem could most likely be the hard drive of the computer.

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 23 July, 2009, 05:20:52 pm
Thank you. This removes problem one, which would be Is it Windows.

Do you know how/are you willing to take the Mac apart?

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 23 July, 2009, 05:35:30 pm
Yes, you did. However that doesn't mean the machine you're having problems on is the mac.

Swap the harddrive out would be my next suggestion. If you're not willing to do that, then there are other methods.

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: IngSlayer on 23 July, 2009, 05:45:35 pm
It was the only one I used on a regular basis, but whatever.

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 23 July, 2009, 05:58:47 pm
*switches to Disaster Recovery mode*

Boot it off an Ubuntu boot CD. This shouldn't even try to spin the HDD drive up, as it runs from RAM. If it boots, that's good. If you can access the HDD drive from it, that's better. If you can do that, start copying everything you want to keep off the disk onto a USB or an external drive.

If it's an HDD failure, everything on there is pretty much screwed. Salvage everything you can that is *absolutely necessary*. Don't do what my brother did, and try to copy 30-40 gig of anime off it. It can always be re-torrented. Or re-downloaded.

If it's a system failure, you're going to be reinstalling. So save everything you can anyway.

There is a last method which can be used to get data off a crapped disk, but that'll be a last resort for you.

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: IngSlayer on 23 July, 2009, 06:27:08 pm
[Takes notes]

What is this last resort, if by some chance the others don't work?

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 23 July, 2009, 06:31:13 pm
Take the disc out, and put it in the fridge overnight, then replace and immediately start copying.

Title: Re: Forest Maze.
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 23 July, 2009, 06:39:04 pm
No, occasionally there is a problem with the bearings expanding when heated, and jamming the drive spindle.

A few days ago, my parents saw an add for a Compaq laptop (CQ60-419WM) retailing at $298, which started earlier this morning. They suggested that this would be a good back-up computer for myself. So that's how I'm posting here now.

Today was my first day.

Had two classes. Should have three, but I still had to talk to one of the profs about there being any room left. Fortunately, there was. Now I'm working on getting one final class into my schedule.

So for today, I just sat in two classes and listened to some lectures. Aside from having to get caught up a little with my (soon to be) third class, that's about it.

The workout today hit me the hardest.

I was starting the six hundred kicks. 'Only did one hundred, and I felt overwhelmingly dazed and nauseous. After I retained stability three minutes later, I only did one hundred more before having to quit for the day.

As my older brother and I were leaving, we deduced that the food I ate before leaving probably caused it...aside from not being used to workouts.

There are three types of kicks performed: an inside crescent, an outside crescent, and an axe kick. Fifty are done with each leg for all three types. After a total of three hundred kicks, the next three hundred are performed by shifting between legs for each kick. I'm supposed to do the inwards and outwards over a wooden dummy (http://www.amas.net/CU/CU_wooden_dummy.jpg) since I'm new to this.

The Leopard I'm referring to has to do with Xingyiquan, one of the major Chinese martial arts.

Leopard isn't listed, but Tiger is more or less what I am referring to.

Reason I'm doing all this? Because I never actually work out. My bro suggested this, so I figured "why not?".
