Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 06 August, 2009, 04:20:10 am
+ : Unlimited Saga, 5€ (8$)? Yeehah!

- : My father being attacked in the street, the guy wanted to steal his laptop. No one is hurt and the computer hasn't been taken, but still...

^^ : Baguette (traditional French bread) + French fries (All in the name) + Emmental (Totally not French, right?) + Tomatoes (Guess from where...) = ... American sandwich. Just don't ask.

-: Microsoft and the world, round 1. Microsoft site crashed my IE7. Since I don't want to reboot my computer, switching for Firefox. Of course, part of said site is IE only, like the Service pack 2 download page from Windows Update. Multiples redirections later, Found out my file, but it take some time (512 Kb/s + non optimized site = SLOW)

--: Microsoft and the world, round 2. Time to download 1,3Gb for Vista SP2. Estimed time before completion: 7 hours and an half. Could you at least zip your file, next time?

---: Microsoft and the world, round 3. Just discovered you cannot download add on for Gears of Wars (or other games/addons from them, for that purpose) because of "regional issues" (read: we do not have the brandwith they expect their customers to have)

Next time I hear someone saying "Stop playing the Wii like a child and go XBox instead", I Falcon Punch him!

But if it was all... no, I decide to buy new pants, and guess what, those 17 € became 10 € when it was time to pay!

I have a long story with climate control. The best one? I said "We're leaving this place (Reunion island) and we're going to a colder place (Alps)! What could be cooler ?" [translated like this on purpose, not EXACT sentence, but you get the idea.]

It was the hottest day of the century in France when we arrived.
It was snowing for the first time in the century on Reunion Island.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 12 September, 2009, 04:26:50 pm
I know the weapon you used too...

FOOLSMITER
Damage: 4-14 Crushing
Enchanted: +2
THAC0: +2
Speed: 10
Weight: 15
Proficiency: Hammers
Usable only by Fighters

This war hammer has a huge stone head in the shape of a rectangular block. Faint traces of gore and blood are on all sides of the hammer's head. The shaft is of a thick wood that looks too weak to support the hammer head's weight.

This enchanted hammer was used as a tool by the Athar at one time during their religious persecution phase of their faction history. The magical war-hammer "Foolsmiter" was constructed so that it did additional damage against opponents who were particularly stupid. When it was crafted, however, the enchantment was twisted such that if the user was less intelligent than the target struck by the hammer, the wielder would take damage as well. For many years, the hammer became a test rite between rival members of the Athar as a primitive (and lethal) IQ test. It was stolen from their headquarters in the Shattered Temple many years ago and has resurfaced once or twice across the Planes.

It is believed that the Intelligence vs. Intelligence contest the hammer once inflicted on the wielder and his enemies has dissipated from the hammer over time, but no one has been confident enough to put it to the test.

Of course I will! Only thing is, I think it will be funnier with the FFRPG team:

My team as I envision them in this situation:
"Werefencer":"This weapon is doomed!"
Dualwielding redmage:"It's brillant!"
Warrior:"I like swords... and guns."
Moogle gambler:"Let's sell it to our opponents."
Daemon summoner:*Not paying attention and burn everything and everyone with Ifrit*

Listing of their latest attempt at stealth, just for fun:
1) A drunk guard, no one else, an airship to steal 50 m in front of them, easy. The moogle advane, I decide to "scare them a little", the guard see the mog... and believe it's a "pink mogliphant" before taking a nap. They charged him and the entire air pirate base, blowing it apart.

2) Their own airship, guarded. Not much, just something to slow them down. But our Were weasel fencer did some noise, was almost spotted. Brillant idea:"Mew!!!" (REALLY bad cat imitation). Guard : "It's a cat?", Him : "Yes, I'm a cat ..."

3) Infiltration, Shinra tower style. Except for the part : "We take the explosive loaded 4x4 and we go straight in the wall at full speed!!!" upon entering.

FFRPG have the great idea to let the mage create utility spells at will. There are only lists for combat spells. Not like they uses this often, but they already called Shiva to create an ice bridge across a river or using earth magic to dig in ancient ruins.

...?:
Latest family news. They are going to divorce.

"Ok, so why not putting a minus, as you would be doing in that case?"
There's actually more things to say than that, actually. I know it hasn't been the happy days everytime, so somehow, I'm happy for them as it seems they decided this after a long discussion. And when my mother phoned me to tell me, it was in the middle of a joke, so I suppose I should laugh with them...

So basically they don't love each other anymore, they don't feel hate or sadness too, it's just it has to happen. So here is my question:Just how am I supposed to react about this, now? Of course, do not think I need an answer, it's more like I needed to ask for the sake of it.

Sometimes, I find it weird that things like that make me feel happy, sad and amuse me...

... As I write this, I think I am the weird one, actually. Sorry for that and don't mind this mumbling about myself more than anything else.

Empty, compared to Europe that is, and from the plane, as I never set foot on Africa itself. Else, about Reunion Island itself, you have to like green, blue and random junk (no, not RJ, actual random junk). The place could be awesome, but it's like a giant garbage collector, you cannot walk 50 m without a dead cat / a pile of broken (alcohol) bottles / put anything you like (or not) here.

Also: they lack a decent Internet.

Wizard. Sorcerer needs Cha.

I need help in choosing one final 1st level spell.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 22 October, 2009, 03:19:44 pm
Hmmm... Let's see, you have Magic Missile (who doesn't?) and you should have something like Detect magic already... anything forbidden?

Personally, I would say Expedious retreat, as it does help running away until you can teleport. Avoid every "hit dice dependent" effects, like sleep. It won't help much in about one level anyway.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 22 October, 2009, 03:24:40 pm
I'll post the list of what I have.

Shield
Mage Armour
Identify
Feather Fall
Orb of Electricity, Minor
Orb of Fire, Minor
Ebon Eye

I'm split between Familiar Pocket and Benign Transposition. Although I'm open to other suggestions. I'm using the Player's and Spell Compedium.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 22 October, 2009, 03:32:49 pm
Which familiar did you choose? So, a bird of some sort... yeah, hiding your familiar is a good idea.

Since you have to prepare your spells, try to have more polyvalent choices at first. The two orbs seems redundant, as are shield and mage armor, but that's just me. Of course, I do not include a background driven choice here.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 22 October, 2009, 03:34:48 pm
Polyvalent?

And the orbs do different damage types, the shield and armour I think they stack...

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 22 October, 2009, 03:40:47 pm
Well, if something is going to attack you, given the number of round these spells last at your level, someone isn't doing his (only) job. Plus, if you've casted both of these spells, you may end up useless 10 minutes later because you have no other spell ready.

About the different damage type, know that fire is the most resisted type of all, while few are weak to it.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 22 October, 2009, 03:42:05 pm
Level 7, I'm joining an existing campaign...

Ah, ok.

In that case, acid or sonic orb?

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 22 October, 2009, 03:45:07 pm
Also, animate rope looked useful.

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 22 October, 2009, 03:48:59 pm
I would say sonic. It has better impact on most objects and it's neglected by most.

And if you're level 7, disregard everything I said about polyvalence, you're already a god.

If you really really want to **** your GM, google "pun pun" (warning : reading this will break every almightiness rules known so far, even the CoS ones.)

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: Hawk_v3 on 22 October, 2009, 03:53:07 pm
I'll take sonic instead of fire then, but what for my last 1st level spell? I'm likely to be underground a fair bit, but not always.

Also, for finding out what a magic item is, can only Identify do the job?

Title: Re: The Pluses, the Minuses, and the Lulz
Post by: NPC Overlord Nikoleis on 22 October, 2009, 03:59:31 pm
It's enough, but if you know what you're doing, just trying the item out will do. History, knowledge and other skills an help, some spells can read an Item, backstory but it's costly as far as I remember.

Underground? Hmm... Open is a 1st level spell if I recall correctly. You're bound to find a locked door from some Drow at your level.

Animate rope is fun, but not really useful if you have enough rank in the revelant skill.

And try to complete your group, they will repay you for this!

Going to bed, bye!

Vampiric touch is the only bad choice here. As a Wizard, being in position to make a touch attack is like saying "Kill me please", as your AC isn't going to be really good (save AC boost and such for other, more able to defend you, teammate whenever possible. Especially a monk, as mage armor is a armor type bonus they lack)
I would suggest Fly or it's quicker version if you lack mobility and Haste is a must have most of the case.
Depending of your team, anything that would raise your saves would help, but that's the cleric's job. And as soon as possible, takes metamagics feats like quickened spell (obvious choice) or eschew component (so no need of your equipment, allow you to cast spells in tight situation)
I would need more time and info about who is with you and who you are (class / race), it can help.

Already have eschew, but didn't take metamagic, too few spell slots already.

Since you're going to be underground a lot, as you said, a quickened light spell (level 4 total) can save your life, depending of the case your opponent is cunning enough to dispel the previous one and blow out your torches before using some dark vision to attack you.
... I sound like a sadistic DM, heh?

And a Darkness spell. If he's going to blind us, I'll blind him.

I'm talking natural darkness here, but the combo is viable. I don't think it would works on some tremor sensing creaure, however.

I suppose no one can be ready enough anyway.

Almost forgot: any magical item? I would siggest having some scrolls of "least useful on a daily basis but still handy" spells. This would includes some some divination at the very least.

BEST. ITEM. EVER!

You have good tastes and you should be proud of it!

Seriously, most of these are interesting. I would suggest adding saves and Int bonuses whenever possible, too, because these always help. Have some detection spells in hand: if you happen to beat a wizard, try to find his spellbook (he is bound to have one) then copy it ASAP (beware of explosive runes however), this should help you having whatever you would need later.

I think that's covering all on the technical part, but nothing here will help with the most important part: have fun!

"Adding" saves and Int bonuses?

And detection spells are Cantrips. Aside from that, I plan on getting Explosive Runes myself, and will most definetly get the countermeasures, as well as Dispel Magic.

Plus, the rope is also for the Disappearing Rope Trick.

Intelligence circlet, for example. It would help your spellcasting abilities.

There are more powerful divination spell that can help against countermeasures (like hiding a spellbook in a stone wall, behind a small lead plate, removing the magical aura and so on...)

I got it for the rope.

I don't have exact names in mind, but anything that can read someone's past can help, reading memories too... anything indirect have a chance at working where the direct approach would help. Also, trying to find the place where the book would be hidden instead of the book itself should work better. Or not, a lot of this is DM dependent.

And as any decent adventurer says: "You never have enough rope!"

Oh, yeah, the game was reedited in your country. How lucky you are! But no thanks. The shipping would cost you a wing and a leg and forget about sending me the ISO. Thanks anyway!

PS: Firaxis, can't you do the same with Alpha Centauri? That would be so cool!

Not like I don't want to, but...

*Imagine[...] the goddamn ****ing ****ty snail paced internet on this side*

Let's see... 10 Kb/s, 650 Mb to download... 65000 s -> 1000 min -> 16 h...

IF I am lucky, I can hit 15 Kb/s for 12 h...

Well, it's sunny at 8:40 and you have water up to you ankles at 8:42. That's actually impressive to see, but definitively not a weather suited for a walk along a speedway.

Playing ToS2. Laughed hard at seeing "Hawkie". Expect him to be the first serious boss, just for the lulz!

Hawk is the name of the first boss... who just has been beaten by a sadistic girl featuring minions named after the 3 musketeer (so obviously French inspired) and who name him Hawkie.

Also, fun fact: the hero's last name is Castagnier, which is a variation from north of the France on Chastan, the provencal version... of MY last name.

Hawk in action as a bonus:

^^:
Today is / was the release date for Assassin's Creed 2. But, because of some problem, our game shipment was getting late (like two three hours). I decided to do my usual comical combo of stupid jokes. Oh, people were laughing, that's a given considering my natural talent (*ahem*) but not as much as when a co worker, wanting me to move, did put her fingers on my waist. Or, to be more accurate, when I jumped halm a meter high releasing a strident shout across the shop. It then was "who would makes him jump the highest" for the next two hours.
Did I mention it was way more effective than my puns?
Well, damn me for being ticklish, i suppose...
