A Rated-R superstar film is a must-see.

You know the worst thing is that the face is from the part that's supposed to be sad.... Nick Cage made it creepy....

I just saw it, it was totally awesome.

As far as superhero movies go, it's now probably my second favourite after Iron Man.

^ he's also bad.
I'd post Troll 2 vids. but the actors of that movie embrace how bad it is in such a homely manner I can't stay mad at them.
I really want a "You can't **** on hospitality, I won't allow it" t-shirt.

I thought Nick Cage was actually quite good in this... Big Daddy has a bit of an Adam West Batman vibe about the way he speaks. When he's in costume, anyway.

Nicolas Cage has been in really good films and has been "decent" to "good" in them. The comedies and light dramas he's been (Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona) have been good. His sucky films are the period pieces and way too serious action movies (save for Face Off, because he dual wielded gold plated M1911A1s).

He fits the character well....

*Picked it up on Blue Ray today*

I really cannot watch this movie enough. It's taught me to stop picking fights with eleven year old girls. And I think... I think that's made me a better person.

I loved that movie. Like I saw it a few weeks ago and ever since I just like have sorta been obsessed with it. Big fan of Hit Girl here. >_> That movie was a bad influence on my mother, though. Shes now on a journey to find a pink utility belt -.-;;

Got this on DVD recently. Still just as awesome as I remember.

Movie was brilliant. Other than the hilarious ridiculousness that ensued from the jetpack, it was wonderful. And as silly as that was, it was also awesome. I think that I actually liked the movie more than the graphic novel (even though the idea for both was concieved simultaneously, so it doesn't count as much).

One of the main reasons for that is Big Daddy didn't actually do a whole ton in the comic. In the movie, his ass-kicking level went up by 50.

I've read about the comic, and flicked through it a couple of times in bookshops, but I can tell I'd prefer the movie. The major differences I can recall are that Big Daddy in the comic was never a police officer (he basically just thought it'd be cool to be a superhero, kind of like Kick-Ass himself, thus making him a lot less sympathetic), Dave doesn't manage to get together with Katie in the end (she apparently even has her boyfriend beat him up after discovering he's not gay), and Red Mist is much more of a malevolent **** and lacks the film version's few redeeming qualities.

All of this is true. However, Red Mist is set up to be a much better bad guy in the comics, however. But I digress, I do like the movie better.

Yeah, but I'd take a less evil bad guy over the more depressing-sounding comic any day. I've also seen the costume designs for the comic verions, and, again, I much prefer the movie ones.

To be honest, actually, I think not being a brilliant bad guy would work for Red Mist. It's very in-keeping with the rest of the movie.

This is also true. Costume design was superior in the movie, and the movie was much less depressing.

Like I said, the movie was better. But I find it interesting how the idea for the graphic novel and movie was created at the same time. The creators basically all got together with the idea, and said that they wanted it to be in both medias, with the same common story, just with minor changes to make each unique. It's just that due to obvious reasons, the movie came out much later than the comic, which is why some people may mistake it for being based on the comic.

But that just makes it easier to argue against people who accuse the movie of adaptation decay. Y'know, the fact that it was always meant to be a movie as well as a comic.

Didn't they start on the movie first, though? I can't remember... Obviously, as you said, the movie would take longer to devellop than the comic, but...

To be honest, I am not certain. I'm sure that they had to go through a lot more to get the project started, regarding pitching the movie and everything, than it did the comic.

And it isn't an adaptation, so I don't understand how it'd further that argument. They were both mean to be based off the same common story, but with clear enough differences.

Yes, but some people are very stupid. I'm sure there must be at least some people in the fanbase that would read the comic, then **** about the film.
