Most of the things I would describe as miraculous happen in sports. Unfortunately I haven't witnessed a true one.

I used to play the trumpet, and while I like to think I still can, I know that it would take a little bit to retrain myself. I'm going to pick it back up one of these days.

How appreciative of action in general would you say you are?

No.

I can appreciate it enough to be entertained by your basic fighting, shooting, killing, blowing stuff up on the surface, but I generally am looking for something more in a film or a book. Those works that I can find more in, even if they lack basic action, are the ones I tend to enjoy the most.

If you mean barks at so much as a leaf going past the door, now. She gets excited when people walk in the door though, but calms down quickly, and it's she doesn't really bark as much as she just makes funny noises. More like a wookiee.

Bass is usually nice and easy to talk to, but she is easily offended, which makes her impossible to reason with and causes collateral damage to any topic she enters.

Spring is probably the smartest person on the site and is a sound poster, contributing solid opinions across the board. He comes off slightly overbearing when dealing with people he either doesn't like or disagrees with over important things. He never forgets anything and may hold grudges, though only for good reason.

The advancements in technology that had taken place by the time World War II came about are probably what makes most people enjoy "studying" it over World War I. Sure, you've got better tanks, better planes, better guns, better ships, submarine warfare, Big Bertha, all that stuff, plus of course the atomic bomb and the Manhattan Project. The leaders are probably a lot more identifiable too. Between Stalin, Hitler, Roosevelt, de Gaul, lolMussolini, and Churchill, those are huge names. You certainly here people talk more about how great Roosevelt was more than how racist Wilson was, or how terrible Hitler was more than how much of douche Kaiser Wilhelm was. On top of that, you've got Rommel, Patton, and MacArthur to captivate people that are looking for great military minds.

But people often forget some of the really interesting stuff from The Great War. Stuff like the Schlieffen Plan, Helmuth von Moltke (I just like his name), the Red **** Baron, Zeppelins, and the list goes on. So I'll agree that World War II is probably a little more interesting, and probably has more to keep you interested in since it truly was total war across the globe, I don't think World War I should just be dismissed without taking a look at it.

Thoughts on the Jawo' situation in general?

I really didn't expect you to give a serious answer like that, but I agree.

I don't even know anymore. Back in the spring when he was open about and stuff, and I could talk to him and he would give feedback, that was different. Then I could still figure out if he was making progress or if he even had a chance to make progress. Then I knew where we stood with his depression and such.

But after I came back from the summer, he went completely dark. Doesn't talk about anything anymore. He doesn't seem any worse, but he's not better either. From what I can tell he hasn't changed at all. Obviously that's not a good thing, but I'm just sort of fed up with it in general. I think I've said all I really know to say to him at this point. I'm not saying that I don't care anymore, but... yeah, I don't know. I guess I'm just bored of it all. The whole thing is really old by this point. Just this soap opera that never ends.Oh whoops. What was that from?

I've always been a fan of brutal honesty. In this case, I don't know how much it helps, but that doesn't mean you should stop.

I think nostalgia can be delightful and fairly powerful. The problem with it is a lot of time, things weren't as good as we remember them being, and when that's the case and someone is motivated by that false nostalgia, that's where issues arise. Bah, I don't know if that makes any sense. Basically I agree with what Spring said. It's great and all, but not to the point where we should actually wish to go back.

Totally didn't see this, god what the heck.

Several things.
I went to my Air Power professor's office hours on Monday, and while I was waiting for him to get there, I was looking around at all the PWAD bulletin boards, and there was a lot of cool stuff posted on them. Then I went into his office hours and he answered my questions within about ten minutes, but I stayed in there kinda listening to him talk for another half hour, and literally everything he said was fascinating. We started talking about this one movie, and moved to actors who served in the military, and then talked about actors who didn't serve in the military and the roles they ended up playing (Did you know Stalone hid in Switzerland to avoid the draft during Vietnam, and then ended up being cast as **** Rambo, the epitome of jungle warriors?), and then some upperclassmen/grad students came in and were talking to him about stuff they were working on, and I didn't really know what they were talking about, but I wanted to. So that kinda got me thinking about it.

Then I considered the fact that I've been thinking about majoring in History anyway, and all of the stuff I find most interesting in history pertains to the discussion of war. I thought back to all of the big research papers I had to do in High School, and what did I write about? George Washington's effectiveness as a military leader, impact of Gettysburg on Robert E. Lee's strategy during the Civil War, something with FDR and arms reduction conferences leading up to WWII, impact on CIA support of the Mujahideen during the Russo-Afghan war, and a paper on the Atom Spies that fed information from the Manhattan Project to the USSR. All of it military or intelligence history. So if that's the kind of history I'm going to study, why not do PWAD?

I also looked at the courses I get to take. After this Air Power one I'm in now, there's a History of Sea Power and Modern Warfare offered in the spring with the same professor. He also teaches the History of Intelligence Operations. One of the core requirements is a class called History of Global Warfare. One of my fraternity brothers that I was talking to is in this class about 9/11 and its aftermath. He said on Monday that they spent the first half of class planning a terrorist attack on our basketball arena, and the second half discussing how to prevent the attack. So there are tons of awesome classes I can take.

As far as what I would do with such a major, I can't really be sure of that, but it doesn't really concern me. People do everything from go to grad school for Law, Government, or Policy, to working in banks, to doing foreign service, to doing whatever. I'll have options.

Overall, I think it will be a good fit for me. It's not like I've rushed over to my adviser and declared already. I'm going to keep thinking about it and talking to people, and I'll make the decision for sure when the time comes. I feel really good about it though.

No, but it's on a list of movies I should have seen by now.

You would play as Ganondorf and follow his rise to power from his ascent to Thief King, to gathering legions of darkness, to hearing of the Triforce etc, to gaining the Triforce of Power and conquering Hyrule and the world and stuff. Not sure how it would end, but Zelda would be in there as your captive or as a leader of a resistance that you have to keep putting down. I guess it would end with a fight against Link somehow, but not sure what else or how that would turn out. As for gameplay it would work to keep swordplay and horseriding, although he would have a much different style (probably a broadsword, two handed stance like the Biggoron sword or the two sword style from Wind Waker) OR/AND magic would have a much bigger role with how much you use it and what you use it for (a lot more destructive stuff ala Din's Fire and all of his dark magic stuff). Clearly you would gain bigger and better abilities throughout the game. There would probably be lots of A God Am I by the time you get the Triforce of Power. Obviously this goes completely with Darker and Edgier, but that's what I would want for this.

I wanted one when it first came out, but that desire was really fleeting. I played one that my friend had and would play them in the stores, and it just wasn't that cool to me. That and none of the titles really interested me. I didn't like the though of having to sift through countless gimmick games to find the ones I cared about. If I had payed attention better I would have realized what was going to happen with the Wii.

I kinda tried to balance things, but didn't really care and just went with the first awesome people I thought of. Live Action TV is a joke though because I watch so little of that, and the little I watch has few characters that actually fight and stuff. Other didn't fit anywhere else. A lot of people are probably really over-powered, but there are a lot of them, so it evens out maybe.

Thoughts on Watchmen in general?

All pure badass.

Great. Really enjoyed the movie, which made me read the novel, which I enjoyed even more. Textbook example of how deconstructions should be done. I also think that both endings worked. They comic ending couldn't have been adapted well to film, and the film ending had a nice current touch to things.

Anything that stood out about that Zelda game idea I had?

Just the bigness of it all. The way you described it made it seem like more than just the average save the land from Ganon thing. You make it seem like an entire world, with a bunch of people that have a stake in it, and that you can really interact with. That and the gameplay you described sounds really fresh and unique to the series. It just sounds like the kind of game I would invest a lot of time in, which is an important aspect of games for me.

How would you want the graphical style to be (cel-shaded, TP-style, something in between, something new, etc.)

New would be preferable. Fresh graphics to go with a fresh approach, although there were elements of TP that I liked, particularly the water. I would probably lean towards more realistic than cel-shaded, but not strictly so.

I was thinking "realistic" style that looks like The Last Guardian with natural looking animation/ambiance, but not as bright/clean looking. I'd say something that looks like Uncharted 2, but that looks more like an action film, even when no action is going on.

What's an environment, big or small, that you'd like to see in this theoretical Zelda game?

How do you mean? Like a specific level or area?

Or an entire "continent" or kingdom. However much detail you want.

I feel like it would work to have something like the setup in Avatar with the different nations and such. Have one that's more industrialized than others, one place that clings to more traditional values, a group of people that are very reclusive, sort of hard to find or come into contact with. Obviously you wouldn't want to directly rip anything off, but I like that world was set up. I've also always been a set up of the mountainous region. I really liked how Kakariko was set up in TP, and if that could be expanded it would be even better. I'm not sure just how big this world would be, but if you had a region in the far north where it was always dark, kinda where the sun just never reaches, I think that would be cool.

Have you played/ever had interest in the Uncharted series?

I've never played, and I don't hear about it that much, but what I do hear is good.

Just a heads up: Uncharted 1 gets repetitive and frustrating at parts, mostly because the entire game seems like a series of straight up shooting and static platforming (nothing else besides shooting other guys on foot/climbing+jumping). It's fun, but it shows its age like a lot of platform-release games do.

You could play Uncharted 2 and quite possibly enjoy the twists in the story more if you hadn't played U1 than if you had. Playing 1 does enhance the experience of U2 because you'll appreciate all the things that were fixed (which don't have much to do with the mechanics of the game [the controls/graphics in each are fine], just what actually happens).

What fictional character do you believe is the biggest **** to have ever been conceived?

I've really stopped doing that for the most part, with the exception of those five from the other day, and even with them I had a sliver of hope. I'm really just trying to get back where we shared for the sake of sharing, and away from the status of the now where all of our interactions are based on some foolish competition to see who can **** the other off more.

Thoughts on games that are intentionally difficult (Battletoads, Ghosts N' Goblins, etc.)? Do you feel that, since beating them becomes improbable that the enjoyment is more the sake of playing the actual game, or is it from seeing just how far you can progress despite the high chance of death?

Yeah, I would say that it's more about the challenge the game presents. I've played Battletoads before, I'm almost positive I never made it past the second level, but I would still play until the point of utmost frustration because part of what have been satisfied if I had gotten to the third. Early Mega Man games are that way for me too, though they aren't quite as hard. So yeah, it's all about how far you can get, and testing yourself. Unless you're playing with other people. Then it can be about how much a fool the game makes of each of you.

Dexter's Lab was a great show. My favorite episode was the Voltron one, and the opera one was good too. Ego Trip was also entertaining. Justice Friends was always a plus too.

Powerpuff Girls was also good, but I think I enjoyed Dexter more. Probably because Mojo Jojo was the only villain I liked, really.

Johnny Bravo was pretty stupid, but I would probably laugh more if I watched it now, just because his endless pursuit of women didn't really do much for me when I was younger. I still tell people to do the monkey with me from time to time.

Probably the worst cartoon cartoon there was. I never thought it was funny, and I don't know, I think the butts just kinda repulsed me.

Courage was also a really good show. I liked episodes with Le Quack, the curse of Rameses, and my favorite was probably the one with the tower shooting unhappiness canon balls. I found it legitimately scary at times, too. Oh god, and the one with the duck god who falls in love with Eustace's truck was also hilarious.

Those two episodes of Courage you mentioned are my personal favorites along with Freaky Fred.

Another thing about Dexter is that I identified very closely with the whole conflict of the older sibling **** with your ****. Big douche always coming into my room and breaking my Legos. Gah.

I could probably still play the games and enjoy myself (in fact I know I could since I started a file on Yellow my senior year) but I don't have the system that the recent games have been released on, and the console games don't look any good. Still pisses me off to this day that the memory in my Yellow and Silver crapped out.

Well and I just stopped using handhelds anyway, and in situations where I would have used them or put time into playing them, I started listening to music or sleeping. Also, my friends "grew out of it" and I for me, Pokemon was kind of a shared experience.

What subject would you defend if someone else were to voice a negative opinion on it? Would it depend on the way that opinion was presented?

I would defend fraternities if someone posted a reasonable argument about how they didn't like them or they had in some way been wronged by a fraternity. If someone was just like "lolfrats hurr what douchebags" with little else, then I'm probably just going to pass over them. I can't think of much else I would actually stick my neck out for at this point on this site or the Internet. Would go on a case by case basis.

What about professional and collegiate sports? Does it still bother you to hear/see someone bash fraternities without giving good reason?

Whether someone cares about sports or not is not something that I should have taken a stand on, nor will I in the future. I am biased not only being a sports fan but also having played sports for most of my life. Other people may not have had the same experiences I have had with them, so they are unlikely to be swayed regardless of what I might say. It was really more of a reaction to Floyd's comment about professional sports being the new opium of the masses. I would rather not accept such a statement, but to a degree it is probably true.

It does, but only in the sense that I'm a part of something that is prone to such bashing. I don't really like the image that fraternities have that provoke those comments.

Also, let me make what might be an obvious extension to the above and say that I would probably defend myself if someone voices a negative opinion of me.

Tropes that you dislike/are tired of seeing?

Science?

This is hard to come up with because I generally only read about tropes that sound interesting, so I don't really give much thought to the ones I don't. Let me try and think of a few though and I'll get back to you.

Ah, science. I once received an award in 8th grade for being the best science student on my team (just a way they divided us up amongst teachers), but given the difficulty of the class, that doesn't say much. Then I got to high school, and I took Biology, and then Chemistry, and those were alright. Junior and Senior year I took Physics. Physics was hard, but the teachers were very good. It was still the only class that I never got an A in, not even for a single quarter. By that time I had already started leaning more towards being a history person though.

What really killed science for me was lab reports. Of all the compositions I have ever had to write, lab reports are my least favorite. Having to combine math and words and science and then there's the scientific method which I find terrible and uninteresting and uncertainties and pain. So as a class, science and I are not friends.

That doesn't mean I don't find science fascinating. I appreciate what it does for the world, and I still like looking into it on my own terms.

So how are you sir?

It depends on what I'm doing while I am listening to the music. If I am doing homework or busying myself with something else, then the music is probably just serving as background noise. Complete silence can be just as distracting to me as anything else, which is why I don't really like working in libraries. But in that case I'm probably thinking more about what I'm doing than the music I'm listening to.

If however, I'm listening to music just to listen to music, like if someone shares a song with me and wants to know what I think of it, then I'm thinking about the music itself. In those instances, I just kinda let the music take me wherever. Sometimes it's the lyrics, sometimes it's a riff or a solo, sometimes it's just the overall sound that gets me going. I often think about what I was doing when I first heard a song or a song that happens to be similar to one I was listening to in that situation. I listen to lots of soundtracks, which obviously gets me thinking about those movies or games or shows or whatever.

So the definition of my thoughts is based largely on what I'm doing at the time I'm listening to the music, but even when I'm focusing on the music, the thoughts and feelings I may have are dependent upon the song itself. And it's not always the same for every song every time I listen to it.

This reminds a lot of Nujabes at the beginning, but at the same time I'm not really sure I like it as much. I also think about "Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin, especially when the bass sorta kicks in. That's about as much as I get out of it. It didn't really flow that well for me, which was a bit distracting. Not a bad piece though.

Tired and annoyed by how much I have to do tonight and how much I don't want to do any of it. If you ask me the same question at this time tomorrow, I'll still be tired, but I'll be happy and relaxed, most likely.

Guilty pleasure tropes?

Thoughts on the 2000s Spider-Man movies.

I wouldn't mind seeing a good adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. Not an adaptation of the movies, but of the books, and maybe not even strictly them, but just a game set in the Narnia universe. Would be pretty awesome I think, especially if it was a sweet RPG. I don't really have any favorite developers, but I guess maybe Namco.

I liked the first two. I remember thinking Dr. Octopus was particularly awesome. I saw the third one just I was starting to realize that not every movie with crazy action and special effects was "awesome," and I also saw it with my older brother who was laughing throughout most of the movie, so I realized that it was pretty bad. I'm not really motivated to watch any of them again these days.

Why Namco?

Pretty much because I liked Tales of Symphonia so much, and that struck me as being similar to what I would envision with a game like this. But any developer known for quality RPGs would do.

Explain what you enjoyed about ToS to someone who has never played it or even seen gameplay of it.

For starters, it was a long game. I mean, what kind of Gamecube game has two discs? This was unheard of to me before I played this game. It had a lengthy main story as well as a bunch of interesting sidequests.

Second, it was fun. Not your average turn based fighting game, combat could be as simple or complex as you wanted it to be. That and I also like the story. And it was somewhat challenging on my first play through, yet even after it got easier, I was still enthralled.

Third, Indignation.

The game isn't without its flaws. Some sections were positively rage inducing with their tedium, but I felt like the rest made up for it.

Thoughts on Lumy?

He kept things interesting. Wasn't necessarily a good person, but he could carry on a conversation well enough. His questions also had just the right mix of thought provoking-ness and humor. A pretty inscrutable guy though.

As for the guilty pleasure tropes, I will say that I'm a sucker for Blood Knights, no matter how overused they seem to be. I prefer the ones with more emphasis on the Knight than the Blood though.

I've had a fascination with it for quite some time. One of my best friends in elementary school was always playing interesting ones, and in some ways I feel they offer more chance for immersion. Adventure is something I like a lot, and I'm a sucker for a good or compelling story, which is something I think a lot of RPGs (at least the ones I've played or witnessed) have. The ability to customize your character/party is also something I'm a big fan of. To this day, I still don't believe I've played a western RPG, and I think that offers me an incomplete perspective.

First song group reminded me of a Sum 41/All American Rejects/New Found Glory kinda band. They've got that sorta pop punk sound. It's not that I don't enjoy this music specifically, but I find it all tends to blend together after a certain point. So while that song was alright, I would expect the rest of their stuff to sound pretty similar to it. Not bad though.

The next one had more of that boy band rock kinda sound, sorta like Plain White Tees(?). I though the song was pretty good, but again it doesn't seem like something I would listen to extensively.

Do you feel any portable game can match the experience of a console game, or are they all inherently inferior due to being portable?

We've seen ports of games that were once console games to portable versions, and I can't imagine one of those versions would be inferior to another unless the game was really meant to be seen on a big screen, like Spring was talking about with Uncharted. I think with this generation of HD gaming, that ability to kinda translate between the two has decreased. That's almost speaking purely to visuals though. If a portable game has better gameplay, then it's surely not going to be inferior to a console game.

I would say generally not. When it comes to anime though, I typically default to the dub, unless I hear specifically that it isn't good and the sub is better. Once I've started though, I won't switch. So like with the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs I watched last night, I probably would have enjoyed the sub more, but because I had already started with the dub, I didn't want to switch.

As competitive as I need to be. I'm not the kind of person who wants to make everything a competition, but like when I played football and lacrosse, or any other game for that matter, I'm always going to try to win. It wasn't really my athleticism as much as it was the effort I put into the games that made me relevant on those teams. I've also always been competitive in the classroom, which I think has helped me a lot. I've never been one to brag about grades though, and people who do irritate me.

Thoughts on Jawo in general?

I enjoy talking to Jawo'. He's thoughtful almost to a fault, and makes for deep and interesting conversations at time, but even I know at some point you have to be able to have a casual conversation with people, even people you don't know as well that may not know all of your inside jokes or your deepest darkest secrets, if that makes sense. I'm confused by his apparent resistance to change, especially given his emotional state. Everything has to work out how he plans/expects it to, and if it doesn't, then it simply won't do. It seems like he compensates for this by over-thinking everything and everyone so that he can always "know" what they are going to do before they do it. I think he would benefit from relaxing more and not taking everything so seriously (particularly things on the Internet).

Overall thoughts on horror movies?

For some reason it reminded me of playing Bomberman Hero. That game had some crazy music and levels that kinda went with it, I think. Great game. The game in the video looks fun too.

Thoughts on jazz?

In no great detail, it would transition in some combination from a mecha/vehicle fight to a gun fight to a sword fight to a fist fight. It would be a duel between a Blood Knight and an Anti-Hero (where the Blood Knight is probably the Dragon). Essentially, they're so evenly matched that they have to keep switching to a new weapon/technique until they find one where the other is outmatched. Might be some overlap between when each side switches, maybe even constant overlap. Optionally, it could be fought in the midst of two opposing forces, and they would all stop to watch these two fight and let their battle settle the whole engagement. It would either end in a draw or the Blood Knight/Dragon would win, but not in the name of his master. There would be lots of honor and stuff. Fought either in the snow or lightning or both.

So yeah, pretty much been done before.

As you know by now, I was in the Jazz band for a year, and I had idolized that same band for the two previous years. This was the beginning of my love for Jazz, but after I stopped playing trumpet and Jazz, my interests kinda fell by the way side. I would hear the odd Jazz tune and appreciate it, but I didn't actively listen to much. Then over the past year, watching Cowboy Bebop and listening to Soil and "Pimp" Sessions has sort of reawakened my interest in the genre, and while I still don't go out and look for much Jazz, I'm open to people suggesting stuff to me. I really like it for the groove and the feel of the music. It just gives me a kind of specific energy that other stuff like metal really doesn't. It's just different, y'know? Something fresh. I also really like the potential, and really the necessity, for improvisation in Jazz. It can make the same song a new experience every time.

Death Proof was unlike any movie I'd seen. There's a lot of the characters just being who they are, and by the time the chase scene happens, every little detail makes sense.

I should note that I wanted to see it before, just because it was Tarantino, but after watching that, I'll be looking for it a little bit more actively, I think.

Take it with a grain of salt though since its essentially Jaws with a truck. That may or may not be your thing.

Of all the reasons I can think of to write fiction, the one I like the most is this: to destroy reality. Now that is a radical notion, to put onto paper words that can so completely strip the worth from the lives we really live that we would want to abandon them and live among the pages instead. It takes not only powerful words, but powerful imagination to not only create one world but destroy the desire to live in another. I'm sure it must also be dangerous.

I say that I like this idea, yet I don't know that I could actually write for this reason. I often worry that my imagination is dying or dead. I've always been a terrible liar and I'm not spontaneous at all. I am quite the opposite, completely predictable for the most part. It's true that I like reading, listening, and watching good stories more than anything in the world, but when it comes to telling them myself, I can't say I'm very good at it. But I'm trying to be, and I'm working on it.

Noted. I've never seen Jaws though. Only a scene here or there when it comes on TV. I think I've actually seen more of Jaws 2 than the first one.

I'd highly recommend Jaws if only for historical significance, although it is one of my favorite movies ever.

Hansi's vocals (Queen had a great impact on him), their themes appeal to me as a nerd, a satisfying blend of speed and complexity, a generally epic tone, and now having seen them live. I have all of their albums, and that one is excellent.

Sympathetic. Childhood abuse and witnessing the aftermath of a brutal murder of a young girl usually makes it easy to understand where someone is coming from.

Had you heard that Christopher Nolan was planning a video game that takes place within the Inception universe? How would you want such a game to work?

No, I hadn't. I'm not sure. I immediately think about it as a first person shooter, but I'm not sure if that would be the best way for it to work.

And... wow. I mean, if it's like the movie, you would be able to dream up whatever weapon you wanted, you could go to any random crate or storage thing or whatever and whatever your thinking of will be in that box. The possibilities are endless. Any kind of action could take place. I guess your character would be an extractor, but would you be trying to do extraction or would you be training other people's minds against it, or would your goal be inception as well, or would you have a choice?

I do think it would be really easy to screw something like this up and have it be a steaming pile, but it could also be phenomenal...

What about a cooperative multiplayer game/mode with classes?

Well considering the need for a team of people with different abilities to perform extraction, it would probably be a step in the wrong direction to not have something like that.

My ideal boss fight would begin in a manner reminiscent to the Dark Link fight from Ocarina of Time. The protagonist enters, or perhaps he's already there. Maybe he's overlooking a burning landscape, or has some other view of the destruction his quest has caused, the result of his campaign against his enemy. He looks upon the desolation with anguish in his heart. The boss is there of course, standing just behind him, looking on with him. He is also sorrowful, but accepting of it. He sees the flames as necessary. The protagonist knows that he is there. He knows the boss. They were best of friends once, closer than brothers. And now it has come to this. Both know that they must fight, that one must die. They exchange dialogue, talking of their laments and their understanding of the situation, their acceptance.

When the talk is over, the protagonist turns and faces the boss. The boss backs up a few steps so that they are an appropriate distance apart. They draw their weapons. For the protagonist, a sturdy broadsword. For the boss, an ornate rapier. They assume fighting postures.

At last they rush to meet each other and proceed to have one of the most furious and passionate sword battles of all time at the top of a tower at the center of this inflamed world. There is not a moment of onesidedness for they have fought each other many times before, they know each others every move, every trick. They constantly reinvent themselves, but are equals to the very end. In the end, the winner will only triumph by the slimmest of margins. It is a fight that could probably claim both of their lives, and perhaps should after the blood they have spilled and the destruction they have sewn.

So I guess imagine you're playing as the protagonist.

You travel throughout the country forming a resistance. Relationships with non-playable characters is key because as many people as you can rally to your cause you can also turn against it. Eventually, you have enough power and influence, and a large enough army that together you oust the original government with force, though the cost to the country is enormous. After a time, you come to realize that you have become just as oppressive and tyrannical as the empire you fought against, that your followers were inspired more by fear than your charisma, and that this was your friends intention all along, which takes us to the fight above.

Gameplay would revolve around exploration, seeking out other resistances in the countryside as well as within the various urban and rural locales dotting the country. You visit surrounding countries as well, searching for support there. Battle would involve swordplay, but would not be limited to it. There would also be some strategic aspect to it, commanding members of your group in what I imagine would be similar to Pikmin, maybe? This would start small and expand to huge battles by the end.

Seems like it I guess. The Tron soundtrack is the only thing that comes directly to mind, but I think I would have liked it anyway, just the crossoverness makes me like it more. I guess when making crossovers, people tend to put two good things together, so it just works out.

I found it to be completely non-contrived, for the record, down to the way they walk to where they end up at the end of the scene; they never turn their backs on one another unless one of the others have a shot on the one that could shoot them, and so forth.

This isn't really my idea (found it on gamefaqs) but still.

In the new Paper Mario trailer, at one point, he gets what looks like a Spike Goomba's spiked helmet. Assuming its not a bade, people have put forth the idea that rather than the distinct partners like the first two games, you get "generic" partners and customize them with various items and such (which would explain why the Chomp in the images first shown was generic looking). How would you feel about this? If the feature had to be included, what could they do with it to make it better? Or worse? And ignore that all the above could just be a result of the game being in development still (i.e. generic/no partners).

That might actually be cool if there was enough concentration. I would want to be able to put that spiked helmet on my koopa partner too, or make my bomb-omb be able to go transparent, or have a chomp with a fuse that could explode or something. If they half assed it, it wouldn't work.

Sounds like some pretty epileptic trees though. I bet the hat is for you (Mario). Development is the most likely culprit for me.

If a game is non-innovative at all but is still fun, is that enough for you? Or does there need to be some innovation at all times, even if minor?

That's hard to answer succinctly. Most any game can provide some kind of mindless entertainment ala the stuff on places like addictinggames.com. I used to play little flash games all the time, and I'm sure I would call them fun, but they were also just kind of a way to pass the time, waiting games. I've pretty much stopped playing that kind of thing altogether because after a point I realized they were all very similar.

With console games, I think maybe you can draw some parallels. There are games and series I always go back to. Mario, Zelda, etc. on Nintendo. Series like that generally revamp themselves as best they can with those minor innovations, but at the end of the day it's still a Mario game or a Zelda game. But that's what I like them for, and I've yet to get tired of it with them. On the flipside, you have the Madden games or the NCAA Football or even Tiger Woods golf, all those EA Sports games that I used to play. I say used to because now I no longer do. There's virtually no innovation in those games. They get a graphics and roster update and put a new number on it and get released. That's very boring, but I guess it's just the nature of the subject. The game of football doesn't change very much, so it doesn't lend itself to a medium like video games that we expect to constantly improve and give us new experiences. The danger for the industry is if all games suddenly become Madden, new graphics, new names, different year. That's cost-effective, but it's terrible too.

Getting back on track I guess I don't have a lot of problem with a series of games only innovating slightly over time, but outside of those series, I don't really like to see a lot of immitation. So Halo is the great space marine FPS of the last decade, like Doom was for the '90s, that's cool. People complained that the gameplay has remained largely the same over the life of the series, and it kinda has, but they forget how innovative Halo was when it first came out. It's still damn fun today (I assume. I've yet to actually play Reach, but I'm sure I would enjoy it as much 2, 3, and CE). The problem is now you have all these other games trying to be Halo, not that they say it but they are, instead of making a name for themselves, trying something different, becoming something else. Don't make a similar game and think a different name changes anything because it doesn't really.

Still haven't answered the question I guess. Can games be fun without innovation, or only minor. Yeah, I guess so. But I would have to say I have more fun with the ones that were innovators to begin with instead of the imitators that come after them.

Your thoughts on if the next Zelda game took place in an Eastern style world (samurai, ninjas, kung-fu, other Asian combat styles, oni and other monsters) instead of being in the European style world while retaining all the things that make it Zelda gameplay wise and theme wise (Link, Zelda, Ganon, Triforce, Hyrule, etc.)?

I can only assume that would be awesome, but again, a right and wrong way for everything.

Granted, I think you have to try harder to do Zelda the wrong way.

I worry with increasing frequency that I will never be satisfied with the world as it is. I still cannot tell people what I want to do after I graduate. My mother keeps telling people that I am considering Law, but that is not true. I keep telling people I might look at Foreign Service or Intelligence, but it is not something I am treating seriously right now. I want to write of course, but I need a trade, something else to get me on my feet. I am so engrossed in various fictions that I long for them to be real, I find myself wishing away the limitations of reality, the drudgery and banality of every day life.

Everything I know tells me this mindset will lead me to ruin. My remaining hope is that I will learn something that reveals that to be false.

As long as it has potential to spark a conversation, I don't care what people post. I just call it a question topic because that's a pretty easy way to start a conversation most of the time, but just talking or posting something cool is fine too.

Why is this?

I just refuse to believe it's such a "cool" place. Obviously the movie took some liberties, but if the people that go there are anything like the pretentious assholes that lord their exclusivity over everyone that were portrayed in the movie, then I feel it's worthy of my contempt.

I've played more modern games than I have 8 or 16-bit, but the older games I have played are still as fun today as I imagine they were in their prime.

I would imagine it's warranted if you're royalty, but beyond that, pretentiousness is a great way to look like an ass and to distance yourself from other people.
