Title: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: ganonfloyd on 12 June, 2012, 12:56:42 pm
*shut up i used to be in random's splendid adventures topic*

It begins!

I put this here since I don't anticipate watching a ton of anime (it could happen though), but I figured I'd make a topic for all the comics I'm reading and the shows I'm watching and stuff. As of right now, its Justice League (on Season 2 of vanilla Justice League), with Game of Thrones on the horizon thanks to my friends. As for comics... a lot. More than I can probably write here. My co-workers got me buying them monthly now and they have subsequently killed my wallet and time.

Splendid adventures ahoy!

Despero looks distinctly less giant and more purple than I'm accustomed to.

There's an episode that showcases that, sort of.

COMICS DAY

So AvX Vs started really cool with Iron Man vs. Magneto and Namor vs Thing, but the last two issues have been dookie.

Daredevil and Thor are in the next issue but they don't have a chance in hell, and issue 5 has the riveting fight between Hawkeye and Archangel.

And now its turned into Justice League vs. Cthulhu Mythos.

Awesome.

The big thing Grundy fights uses Jurassic Park T-rex roars.

Again, the continuity in this show is great. Look forward to seeing a few of these characters again.

Which episode was that? I'm not sure whether you're talking about one episode or two.

It was one episode, The Terror Beyond.

The "Death of Superman"?

And I was just looking at summaries for every episode of JLU and I've realized they are all amazing, save for two or three ones that are merely good.

Do you know of The Question, The Suicide Squad and Mongol?

Did you expect to like such a Superman-centric episode like that last one?

And The Royal Flush Gang shows up in Batman Beyond too.

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: ganonfloyd on 17 June, 2012, 10:52:16 pm
Certainly not. Like everyone on the show so far, he's had his moments, but he had never been a favorite of mine. I haven't read or seen a ton of Superman related stuff, but that episode was probably the coolest Superman story I've ever seen.

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: Spring-Loaded on 17 June, 2012, 11:03:28 pm
All-Star Superman is one of those stories, both the graphic novel and the animated movie.

I've heard really good things about that for sure, I don't know if my library has it or not but I might check it out. I enjoyed a collection I read based on a conflict he had with Brainiac but that was more due to Brainiac than Superman.

There'll be at least one more moment you'll enjoy from this show then.

Starcrossed is coming up. I look forward to the reactions.

Alfred is a cool dude.

Great season ender, intense as hell. I need sleep and rumination before I start Unlimited.

I would love a Justice League game that fully captures all the positive aspects of this show, particularly stuff like the League being stealthy during the Thanagarian invasion.

And I checked again; every episode of Unlimited is great. I think I'll rewatch this series soon myself.

I find it slightly amusing that there's an episode of this show where the League wants Green Arrow to join and he's not feeling it, and in the new comic continuity there's an issue where Green Arrow wants to join the League and they're not feeling it.

but with pleasedness.

Break time is over. Unlimited viewing begins now.

yes

I find it slightly amusing that there's an episode of this show where the League wants Green Arrow to join and he's not feeling it, and in the new comic continuity there's an issue where Green Arrow wants to join the League and they're not feeling it.

Found this randomly the other day:

Etrigan baby is all kinds of amazing.

Whole episode was great. Diana and Bruce were cute. I remember when Batman was being a downer and said "I haven't been a kid since I was 8 years old," my dad said "He better quit trying to act hard and get some of that," in reference to Wonder Woman.

Zatanna episode? Excellent.

In the commentary, I think it's Paul Dini who says that they were going to have a scene with the Joker in that episode. He'd be explaining his plan for some crazy robbery to his henchmen, then Batman walks by, whispering to the pig that everything is going to be all right and the Joker would turn back to his men and say "All right, that's it. We're done; go home."

Neat, Hourman in the background.

Don't even know who that is, but '-')b

I don't see how they'll top the Question's awesomeness in the last ep-

*episode about Booster mother****ing Gold*

YES

Yup.

And Skeets is Billy West. Completely stunning.

Yup.

You've probably already seen the season finale, but you should see Batman: Mask of the Phantasm before doing so. And Ep1 of Batman Beyond.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is perhaps the finest Batman animated movie ever. The one with Mr. Freeze is a close second.

How did I miss those last few posts derp

I've been slacking so I haven't watched much past where I've been. I'll keep all of that in mind when I resume (likely after Friday night).

On a slightly related note I picked up the first trade paperback of All-Star Superman from the library and it was pretty cool. I'm generally split down the middle with Grant Morrison's stuff but this was on the like side. The issue with Lex getting interviewed in jail and Parasite freaking out was particularly memorable. Vol 2 is on reserve.

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: Spring-Loaded on 27 June, 2012, 09:57:24 pm
It's the kind of Superman story that plays up interesting aspects of his character beyond "get hit over and over and win by brute strength."

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: ganonfloyd on 27 June, 2012, 10:02:25 pm
Given what little exposure I have to the character those kinds of stories usually seem to be the most enjoyable.

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off
Post by: Spring-Loaded on 27 June, 2012, 10:20:47 pm
I like him a lot more in Justice League because of how he's played off of other characters. In his own show, he gets beaten down a lot, not to show how powerful his enemies are but because he's the only hero, so he has to lose a bit to keep the stories interesting. In JL, his actions/reactions in combat and elsewhere consistently make sense/are justified (i.e. he gets hit a lot since he knows he can take it and is taking hits for the League).

I feel like any story that involves a super powered being that is heading towards Earth and is meet by a team of space heroes will make me smile. Secret Avengers did it with the Phoenix like a month ago and I thought that was pretty awesome too.

Only two more episodes before that two-parter.

Yeah, I really dug that one.

The two parter is the one this was in reference too, right?

Title: Re: Floyd's Splendid Spin-off

No. The season finale is a single episode. I'd at least watch the part before the OP of Batman Beyond Ep. 1. I'll try to find it.

EDIT: Before the two-parter, I mean. Not that it's necessary or anything, but it's amazing.

Got it.

So self replicating robots and orbital lasers. This is definitely an Ellis comic story. Also it just occurred to me that I haven't seen The Flash at all in Unlimited which is... unexpected.

This isn't ideal, but you can watch these three videos in order for the full effect:

*breathes life into dead topic*

So with little provocation I picked up where I left of in JLU. Into the second (fourth?) season now. Question has turned into the best character on the show.

Also Giant Robo watching at a slower pace but still happening.

*lets topic breathe until death's inevitable return*
