Title: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: sasori1122 on 11 January, 2013, 11:32:39 pm It's Oscar Season everybody! Hooray!
Time to acquire a bunch of films to watch all month. Here's the list, with a few boldings/strikethroughs for my thoughts on winners or definite losers. Best Picture Amour Life of Pi Argo Lincoln Beasts of the Southern Wild Silver Linings Playbook Django Unchained Zero Dark Thirty Les Misérables Actor in a Leading Role Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) Denzel Washington (Flight) Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) Actress in a Leading Role Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) Naomi Watts (The Impossible) Actor in a Supporting Role Alan Arkin (Argo) Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook) Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln) Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) Actress in a Supporting Role Amy Adams (The Master) Sally Field (Lincoln) Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) Helen Hunt (The Sessions) Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) Animated Feature Film Frankenweenie ParaNorman Wreck-It Ralph Cinematography Anna Karenina Life of Pi Lincoln Django Unchained Skyfall Costume Design Anna Karenina Les Misérables Lincoln Directing Amour Life of Pi Beasts of the Southern Wild Lincoln Silver Linings Playbook Documentary Feature 5 Broken Cameras The Gatekeepers How to Survive a Plague The Invisible War Searching for Sugar Man Documentary Short Inocente Kings Point Mondays at Racine Open Heart Redemption Film Editing Argo Life of Pi Lincoln Silver Linings Playbook Zero Dark Thirty Foreign Language Film Amour (Austria) Rebelle (Canada) No (Chile) En kongelig affære (Denmark) Kon-Tiki (Norway) Makeup and Hairstyling Hitchcock The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Les Misérables Music Original Score Anna Karenina Argo Life of Pi Lincoln Skyfall Music Original Song Chasing Ice Les Misérables Life of Pi Skyfall Ted Production Design Anna Karenina The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Les Misérables Life of Pi Lincoln Animated Short Film Adam and Dog Fresh Guacamole Head Over Heels Paperman The Simpsons: The Longest Daycare Live Action Short Film Asad Buzkashi Boys Curfew Dood van een Schaduw Henry Sound Editing Argo Django Unchained Life of Pi Skyfall Zero Dark Thirty Sound Mixing Argo Les Misérables Life of Pi Lincoln Skyfall Visual Effects The Avengers The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Life of Pi Prometheus Snow White and the Huntsman Writing Adapted Screenplay Argo Beasts of the Southern Wild Life of Pi Lincoln Silver Linings Playbook Writing Original Screenplay Amour Django Unchained Flight Moonrise Kingdom Zero Dark Thirty Honestly, I have no clue why Silver Linings Playbook has so many nominations...it's confusing...I'll have to check it out, I guess, but it didn't look like Oscar material from the previews or anything I had read about it beforehand. Also surprised at the absolute snub of Cloud Atlas. I still haven't seen it, but I have listened to the score and there is no way that it shouldn't have at least been nominated for Best Original Score. Not so surprisingly, Leo is once again snubbed...I expect he wouldn't have been if Gatsby had been released in December, as originally planned, so he'll at least be in the running next year, and hopefully gets it...even if someone else is phenomenal, he's been great so many times and deserves some recognition... Pleasantly surprised Skyfall got a nomination for cinematography. Surprised Bigelow and Tarantino aren't in the running for Director. Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Ƨɒlƚy on 12 January, 2013, 12:25:43 am I'd definitely pick Christopher Waltz for Best Supporting Actor. That acting was amazing.
Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: sasori1122 on 12 January, 2013, 12:29:59 am I still need to see Django, but I'd definitely believe he did an amazing job
Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Ƨɒlƚy on 12 January, 2013, 12:30:36 am In my humble opinion, he was the best part of the movie.
Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Random on 12 January, 2013, 02:22:48 am Leo was pretty phenomenal in Django, too, though. I guess it's just the nature of the role that kept him out.
It is weird not to see Cloud Atlas in here. Score yes, but costume design also is where I'd expect to see it. People have said really good things about Silver Linings Playbook, so I can see that. I wonder if Bigelow was snubbed because of the political controversy in her film about the torture and whatnot. Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Spring-Loaded on 12 January, 2013, 02:32:22 am Samuel L. Jackson in Django Unchained portrayed the most devious villain I've seen in a long time. I felt that deserved a nod. I loved Waltz's character though; it was hard not too.

Best Picture: Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz Animated Feature Film: Wreck-It Ralph Best Original Song: Skyfall Best Original Screenplay: Moonrise Kingdom or Zero Dark Thirty Dunno about the rest. Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Youef on 13 January, 2013, 12:38:00 am After seeing Zero Dark Thirty, I can see Jessica Chastain as having a good chance at winning. She was excellent in that.
Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Gargravarr on 09 February, 2013, 08:52:22 am Since the BAFTAs are tomorrow, and they could be considered a "practice run" for the Oscars, I thought I'd post the nominees here for anyone who's interested.

That doesn't explain why The Pirates! got nominated for an Oscar but not a BAFTA, though... Also, apparently animated films don't warrant a full presentation and were reserved for the "other awards" round-up. ¬_¬ Cinematography Anna Karenina Les Miserables Life of Pi Lincoln Skyfall Editing Argo Django Unchained Life of Pi Skyfall Zero Dark Thirty Production Design Anna Karenina Les Miserables Life of Pi Lincoln Skyfall Costume Design Anna Karenina Great Expectations Les Miserables Lincoln Snow White and the Huntsman Makeup and Hair Anna Karenina Hitchcock The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Les Miserables Lincoln Sound Django Unchained The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Les Miserables Life of Pi Skyfall Original Film Music Argo Anna Karenina Life of Pi Lincoln Skyfall Special Visual Effects The Dark Knight Rises The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Life of Pi Prometheus Avengers Assemble Short Animation Here to Fall I’m Fine Thanks The Making of Longbird Short Film The Curse Good Night Swimmer Tumult The Voorman Problem Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer Bart Layton (Director), Dimitri Doganis (Producer) – The Imposter David Morris (Director), Jacqui Morris (Director/Producer) – McCullin Dexter Fletcher (Director/Writer), Danny King (Writer) – Wild Bill James Bobin (Director) – The Muppets Tina Gharavi (Director/Writer) – I Am Nasrine EE Rising Star Award (public vote) Elizabeth Olsen Andrea Riseborough Suraj Sharma Juno Temple Alicia Vikander Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Random on 11 February, 2013, 01:50:17 am Hurray for Christoph.
Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Gargravarr on 11 February, 2013, 07:32:40 am Hurray for Christoph. You should've seen him accepting it. He seemed rather shaky, bless him. Title: Re: Academy Award Nominations! Post by: Ƨɒlƚy on 11 February, 2013, 10:23:05 am I admit, I don't see Christoph not getting the Oscar for that role. |
