I've noticed in WW that Link is far more animated (in every way) than any other Link. You could even say that he has...."character".

Also,

*uses smelling salts on Masterman*

You basically asked for it man. And there's more where that came from....

...ACK.

Mario totally has a personality.

Brave, hardworking, and never giving up. Willing to help any one, no matter what. Kind, and thoughtful. Looks after his brother, cares about Peach.
Don't know if it's already been said, but isn't that also Link's personality if you replace a few things? I mean...

Link is courageous, hardworking, never gives up, willing to help anyone, friendly and cares about Zelda/Midna/whatever female lead is in the game.

i view mario from a much more selfish approach:

nearly all fo his adventures revolve around saving the princess (varies) or himself, and most of the time the princess gives him something for his trouble (kiss=*winkwinknudgenudge*)

any time he helps someone else or saves another person its always towards some selfish goal. all of his actions are focused towards his own success/survival.

that was about the most cynical thing i've said yet. O_o
