If by that you mean taking the elements of real life situations, then sure. It goes over the problems Afghanistan has been going through over the years, like the Soviets entering, the Taliban, America coming in, etc. But the whole plot is fiction.
It's not actually based off of a true story though.

O. Meh, "true life" stories really aren't my thing either. I'm more of a fantasy/science fiction type of guy. Eh, to each his own, though.
