He honestly deserves them. Normal is pathetically easy. Expert is pretty damn easy, too. It's a notch down from P3's normal, for crying out loud.

Do not check Gamefaqs you will be spoiled and it will ruin everything. Yes you do want to join clubs, doing the quests for people is generally worthless other than for the Hermit social link. Always spend your day ranking up a social link if you can unless you need to go to the Midnight Channel, and spend nights ranking up attributes by reading or doing part time jobs.

If a character doesn't have a unique polygon and/or a portrait, ignore them completely. Due to the structure of the game (all of your party members are S-Links, most of the early S-Links are outright pointed out, most of the rest are found on the job billboard, and everything else is story related), it's pretty damn easy to figure out who is important and who isn't. If a character appears in school and has a portrait, yet doesn't have an S-Link open, it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep an eye on them. Jobs are pretty irrelevant except for a few nice items here and there, but don't worry too much about those.
