Oh **** you SMTII. I haven't upped Aleph's magic stat at all because it's completely pointless, until now where for plot related reasons Aleph needs to have at least 10 magic. He has 4, and I can boost it by 2 temporarily, but that still means I need to somehow manage grinding 4 levels to get his magic up to 8.
