Do you think that having bad accuracy for weapons or having non-intuitive controls is OK in a game regardless of intention, if it contributes to game positively (RE's tank controls)? Is it fair to immediately label these things as being negative?
It depends on the genre. I think tank controls work best in a horror game, though I'm sure they can work in another kind of game. And the whole "no manual aim" thing never really bothered me except when Harry just randomly shot in the air when an enemy was right in front of him.
Actually come to think of it, RE4 technically had tank controls, but it was just much more comfortable given the camera angle and ability to aim.
I know some people who were turned off the minute they played RE, and I admit that I was too, but it takes time to get used to it. After a while it's fine, really.
