Actually now I remembered that Zeta Gundam had a pretty awesome ending.

ZETA GUNDAM SPOILERS AAAAAAAAAAAA

Like half the cast gets killed off and the main character suffers brain damage and ends up insane. The last few scenes are pretty much my favorite part of an anime though.
