i remember being vaguely interested in yugioh when it came out since some friends and my brother watched and played it but i steadfastly refused because that was the height of anti-anime sentiment in my school and i couldn't be seen enjoying that stuff

Floyd is the devil.
I SERIOUSLY DREAMT OF FLOYD BEING A KILLER CYBORG WHO RAN 10 TIMES FASTER THAN ANY NORMAL HUMAN, AND THEN KILLED MM, TURNED FEMALE, WENT AFTER ME, AND I DROPPED FROM THE SKYSCRAPER! IT HURTED, BUT I AWAKE CALMLY, THINKING I WOULDN'T SEE YOU AGAIN.
*no gold, just us*

And now you watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Speaking of which, I should get on that soon.

I don't think I could actually even conceive of myself really paying attention to that interminable show, even if I was convinced to watch it.

Ok, I take back what I said about enjoying SAO more than I expected. This show sucks. I was hoping I could at least make fun of it, but there's nothing to make fun of. It's just...really boring. At least Mayoiga had some unintentional comedy.

honestly, i can only imagine going nuts over SAO and loving the **** out of it if I was still 12. Went nuts over .hack around that time, but .hack (or what existed of .hack at that time, the first four games and SIGN) was always more cerebral than my dumb, ADD-plagued ass could handle -- something similar, but a lot less introspective and just overall dumb like SAO would have hit the spot. I'm kind of enamored by the idea of that show solely for that reason.

SAO's actual selling points are the visuals, animation, and the music. The show itself kind of...sucks.

it's almost like yuki kajiura goes out of her way to waste her talents on terrible shows

it's almost like yuki kajiura goes out of her way to waste her talents on terrible shows i think it's just that she does so much work she's bound to end up on a terrible show or two

she doesn't do a whole lot, actually, just some of the biggest things to come out in the last few years (SAO, Madoka, Fate/zero -- ironically, madoka and fate/zero may have some of her worst performances despite being the best shows she's touched). but like, she did all of Bee Train's stuff, some bottom tier XEBEC stuff like elemental gelade, my-hime and my-otome and some other fodder like eatman and aquarian age. up until those kara no kyoukai movies, she had never touched a good show (or game -- like the latter two xenosaga games and some stuff for the supplementary .hack discs) unless you want to argue for hack//SIGN, and that was back when she was at her most active.
