NOTE: I never read any of the Watchmen comics.
I can't think of much to say about it since it's getting late, but it was a pretty good movie. The music was mostly good, but sounded weird at certain moments. The acting was also very good, as was the action. I would have to say my favorite characters were Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan.
I wasn't paricularly thrilled with the level of violence though; too brutal for my taste.

I'm not sure about the last part. If it was a movie about a murderer who was picking off the ex-members of a SWAT team, I'm sure the level of violence would have been perfectly acceptable. I think it's just the fact that it's superheroes that were doing it.

I'm merely saying that I typically don't like watching violence on that level, not that they should have toned it down, and I didn't know that it would be that intense in the Watchmen.

Actually neither did I. The violence wasn't as brutal in the book as it was in the movie. For example: In the movie, the guy got his arms cut off with a saw, in the book, he merely had his throat cut. Though I'm not sure that's any less violent.

I think to achieve the emotional effect the comic had on readers for the movie, amount of slow-motion and levle of violence was appropriate.
When reading a comic, a panel of intense action will linger longer in your mind than it would if the same event took place in real-life or normal speed in a film. The shock of seeing the comedian beaten to death in the comic couldn't be recreated to be exactly the same, blow for blow and still have the same effect on people in a modern movie.
