I think he was one of the associated pirates that came along at Whitebeard's call. Or showed up otherwise.

My bet's that look means "Boy, I knew you were going to do that, so I'm going to pull this here sword out of myself and then proceed to pwn you and everyone else after you give me the reason why". It'd fit.

Extremely anti climactic is an understatement. For a long while now, Whitebeard has been hyped up to be this epic person who is the only real contestant for the role of Pirate King. Being killed by being stabbed by some apparent nobody...That's just cruel.

Honestly though, I doubt he'll die.

Now Ace...I'm starting to think he will.

Whitebeard can't die like that. I think it'll weaken him slightly, and perhaps prevent him from participating too much in the fight, thus giving the marines better odds, making it more epic when (if) the pirates beat the marines, or Luffy rescues Ace. Just my theory.


And Ace can't die D: No one dies in One Piece, other than in flashbacks. I mean, Pell took a huge bomb, capable of blowing up an entire city center straight to the face and he got out pretty much unscathed (after being bandaged of course). Ace can take a few beheadings.
