The anime is expanding on the other straw hats' adventures, though whether or not the filler (which it is) is written by Oda or not, I don't know. It IS expanding on their adventures though.

And I can only see the reason for some of the strawhats...

Zoro - Maybe if he spends time with Perona, he becomes accustomed to her negative ghosts and grows a stronger spirit? I don't know.
Sanji - Being turned into a transvestite, maybe he'll learn Okama kenpo, or maybe even Newkama kenpo. Though I hope he un-transvestites again. He's my favorite character besides Luffy <_<
Nami - . . . She's on a weather island. Studying the weather. Her own attacks are weather based. Go figure.
Usopp - He's on an island where EVERYTHING is dangerous. Maybe it'll help him overcome his cowardice?
Chopper - Basically the same as Usopp, though not everything is dangerous. Just the big birds and the tribespeople who want to eat him.
Franky - . . . Again, a cyborg. On an island specializing in machines. Go figure. Also, Franky has found Vegapunks old laboratory, so it could be interesting.
Brook - He's satan and therefore.... panties? I don't know. I see no way for him to grow stronger <_<
Robin - She's a slave so she learns how to... build.... very large bridges? Again, I see no real reason for her being there <_<

Movie 6 is the one with the weird art style, and much darker/creepier story than usual. All of Luffy's friends are absorbed by a giant plant and "killed", while Luffy gets his ass handed to him, unable to stop it. Kind of like Kuma, only a bit creepier, and it happened before the manga. It's also where the art style for Luffy punching the tenryuubito came from.

-Further proof that Rayleigh is a total badass.
-More things adding to the confusion over Kuma's motives.
-Finding out exactly why the island Usopp's on is so dangerous (which I personally found really creepy).
-Finding out what Chopper's been up to and that he's now on his way back to Sabaody.

All in all, a pretty good chapter.

I already knew about the island Usopp was on (because it's been in an anime filler episode), but it's nice to see the crew back in the manga, and in Chopper's case, on the way back.

But dayum... Rayleigh swam through the Grand Line, and through the Calm Belt? Holy feces...
