The Japanese have this thing about the Moon. For that matter, so do most Westerners. Werewolves anyone?
As for eyes and the zooming in on them, it's probably part of the well-known literary cliche that you can divine what a person's thinking, feeling, whether they're honest or not, and much more incidental information just by looking in a person's eyes. This is even more exaggerated in most anime, with their overlarge eyes (originally drawn that way in order to make facial expressions easier to draw and communicate with, believe it or not).
Hm, makes sense. But sometimes drawing in that style makes it harder to portray some expressions... *Looks at your sig* Wut? I have trouble with a few expressions. THAT'S BECAUSE YOU SUCK |

Not sure why you'd complain about this when much more common is people running towards nothing in particular. Just...running. >_>

*runs at the screen as the time of day changes as the credits churn*
*stands on a rock and looks up at the moon as allies appear (mystically teleporting or just images) behind him in still-life corny poses*

I just finished an episode that mentioned two characters in said show that use the power of the moon.
Also, one of those two character's name is Chinese for "moon". |
