it's like one of those weird wish fulfillment things where she's very attractive, ultra popular, extremely athletic and incredibly intelligent, but also secretly a complete otaku wreck wholly reliant on her onii-chan. so kinda like oreimo, only she's so manipulative, petulant and irredeemably unpleasant that i can't quite imagine the person who'd wish for that. it's almost like some kind of parody, only everything i've heard about it indicates that it's played straight and just exaggerated

i guess it gets points insofar as the fact that the camera seems to focus on how much of a slovenly git she is, as opposed to oreimo focusing on kirino's ass 24/7

twitter banned a couple of people for posting anime screenshots. targets were primarily fansubbers - just swamped all of them with like, hundreds of DMCA notices each for wholly innocuous things

and apparently FUNimation has admitted to abusing DMCA to get fansubbers banned on twitter. not even like, primary twitter feeds dedicated to their releases or anything, just private twitter feeds.

really hoping this is just some really dumb intern who is about to find himself on the precipice of being fired (i mean, who the **** would actually admit that? still not wholly sure if it's true, but someone is doing it), but otherwise gj guys.

honestly was thinking of getting a FUNimation subscription when I have some more free time, since they have quite a few older titles that I do want to watch. I... prolly still will, but I can't say this doesn't put a bad taste in my mouth. like, that's pretty fuckin' shitty

so, i got to see this amazingly shitty thing last night:



defenders of space, aka phoenix-bot phoenix king (manos: the hands of fate has a competitor!) is a south korean bootleg "anime" from 1984. it ripped off every space opera/giant robot character, song and design that it possibly get its hands on, sometimes wholesale. notably, the eponymous giant robot is fucking inferno from transformers. at some point, it was given this hilariously bad dub, where everyone either sounds vaguely australian or like a frat boy (hey man, where are the chi-o's, i thought this was a mixer!). all of the characters are presumably renamed, leading to the fat, evil dictator villain being named "nick". there is virtually no animation, it's about one of the ugliest things this side of dracula: sovereign of the damned. it's so bad that you can see the god damn dirt on the cell frames in the middle of the animation, it's amazing

been a long while since i gave something a 1/10. think the last title that bad was when i watched roots search with ahriman. or i dunno, maybe RWBY, but even RWBY is better than this. it's the kind of thing that i can't believe exists.

Whatever happens there's always the original, so I'm looking forward to it. That said, if their idea is to focus on the plot then it's kinda misguided since the original is mostly about character and theme. Although I would like to see some cool space battles and ish with the under-explained cosmic aspects of the backstory.
