New York General Assembly passed a bill legalizing same sex marriage
now, if the NY Senate passes it, then it will be good to go because the governor, David Paterson, has already said he will sign it

so, yeah, let's hope the Senate is good

Sad thing is...Atlanta is probably going to suffer in terms of population from this

12.8% of our (Atlanta's) population identifies as LGBT, but this state is not going to legalize ssm anytime soon, so people are probably going to start moving...

Gotta say though, is the right to marry going to be worth the backlash? To publicly label yourself as a homosexual couple would essentially mean that said couple and anyone related to them will become targets of those who hate homosexuals. That pretty much balances out and more any benefits of marriage.

After the abolishment of slavery in the U.S. racism has been a big deal for well over a hundred years, and it STILL exists today. I don't see homosexuality taking any shorter amount of time to get over.

New Hampshire bill now awaits the governor's signature, which he has said he would do...so...I guess New Hampshire will be our 6th state

On the other hand, in New York, their bill has passed the House, but has hit a snag in the Senate.  It needs 32 to vote yes on the bill for it to pass.  Currently, only 20 NY senators firmly support it, while 28 firmly oppose it, so it will come to the 14 uncommitted to decide the bill's fate.  Basically, if 2 of those undecided vote against the bill, it will fail.
