Just say the name of the show you thought had an awesome ending.
I'd say my favorite ending was Cowboy Bebop's ending.

Cowboy Bebop had a good ending. I felt leading up to it was kinda meh, but the "ending" of the end was excellent.
Others:
Code Geass R2 (yeah, kinda unnecessary and over the top, but the whole series was so it's to be expected) Death Note (As soon as Near gets out of the picture, then it turns excellent)

School Days lolol.
But really Big O, Nadesico (ignoring the movie) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (Series or movie ending no u Jake) are the most notable series endings I've seen just for doing things differently.

I was told that Big O's ending was the only thing that was bad about the show.

If by "doing things differently" you mean half ass it without trying to hide it, then yes. Movie ending was acceptable though, not excellent but acceptable.

So to get the point across they were forced to use old footage and more surrealistic imagery. It fits with the show to be honest. As for what I thought had a great ending... Well, nothing I can think of right now.

Most people don't really like it. It's a total mind**** ending where a lot went unexplained. After seeing enough typical epilogue endings it's definitely more interesting. Not that an epilogue ending is bad, but it's not worth noting.

GUNGRAVE. DEFINITELY. FREAKING BEST ENDING EVER, AND IT'S BASICALLY UNANIMOUS AMONG PEOPLE WHO'VE SEEN IT.
ALSO, CODE GEASS (DESPITE THE REST OF THE SHOW BEING JUST OKAY), EVANGELION, BEBOP, GUNBUSTER, DIEBUSTER, AND CLAYMOREOOLOLOLOLOLLLOLOLOLOLOOLOOOLOLOLOL.
