How do I get Rosetta Stones? There aren't enough for all the characters in story mode, are there?

In the colloseum, you win... token, I suppose in English... that you can trade for chest. Various items/rare equipments can be found there, depending of the course. For rosetta stone, aim the Level 90-100 one. I heard you can gain the actual stone at the last one, but I haven't tested this yet (case of being slaughtered to death by agressive opponents, like, worse than in Inward Chaos!).

I'd rather work at getting the ingredients than the stone itself. There's no way I'm going up against a level 90-100 opponent just yet.

I have to add that sometimes, you can haves "reports" there (like Ansem's in Kingdom Hearts), revealing some parts of the story. So it's actually interesting story wise.

Yeah, I knew about those. The Cosmos Reports are gained in Story Mode and the Chaos Reports are in Duel Colosseum, right?

So are there specific accessories I should be using for different characters? Like increasing wall rush damage for Cloud or something.

More or less, even if I tend to stick with pure damage bonus, while Ex bonus and attraction goes along well too. Defensive accessories requires micromanagement (depending on opponent, mostly), wall rush does help some chars like Cloud, Squall and Jecht, and so on... it's up to you to create your playstyle with these.

Okay... And how does Battlegen actually work? There are some DP chances that require it and it seems pretty random to me...

You've got your answer! I never put much attention in it as I saw some equipment increasing the drop rate in the shop (that I haven't unlocked), while I already have Luck + 4 items. Just fight in various situation and try to grab as much as you can, but it's not the hardest part anyway.
For DP, aim for multi hit, crash attacks if possible, but really, it's luck based.
