I think it was probably my combination of pokemon and my own horrible luck.

The fight was pretty much like this:

*Easily takes out Haunter*
*Easily takes out second Haunter*
*Is hypnotized by Gengar*
*Is pummeled*
*Wakes up*
*Is hypnotized instantly by Gengar*
*Is pummeled*
*Wakes up*
*Rince and repeat until I die*

Ugh, I've come across a couple of Drowzees like that. I was trying to level up Cheshire, but the Drowzees would often Disable my only damaging move.

Yeah Morty will do that.... But this time round it seems like he's better at it.... Maybe just my luck that all is hypnosis worked this time....

That seems to be a trend with important NPCs. I remember Bugsy's Kakuna managing to poison my pokemon 100% of the time.

Also the NPCs do have the stats favoured in their way.... EVs, IVs and the percentages of attacks hitting or giving you status problems plus they get to have illegal Pokemon with illegal moves....
