Wednesday 2nd March

10:58pm
Okay, my pokemon are all levelled up (complete with some evolutions and the acquisition of a Celebi thanks to a giveaway), so I'm now all set to take on the Blackthorn Gym. My team will be Tusker and Levi (Ice attacks for Dragons), Tesla (Electric for Water-types), and Rosso, Pell and Molar (non-Dragons with Dragon attacks for Kingdra). Hopefully nothing should go wrong, so here goes nothing...

11:02pm
Blimey, this place has changed a bit. Looks like Clair took inspiration from Bowser's Castle when she built/remodelled her gym. The puzzle has changed, too. Instead of pushing boulders on the upper floor down holes to form bridges over the lava in the ground floor, there's only one flor and you have to manoeuvre platforms across it through the use of switched on each platform. Two switches move a platform from side to side, while the third twists the platform 90 degrees, allowing you to move in all directions. It's a bit more complex, but nothing I can't handle.

11:26pm
Okay, that's all the gym trainers beat. Now to heal up and take on Clair herself. Wish me luck!

11:53pm
Ah, Levi... What would I ever do without you? The battle went smoothly against Clair's Gyarados and the first of her Dragonairs (Gyarados fell in one shot to Tesla's Discharge and the Dragonair was beaten by repeated Ice Shards from Tusker). Problems started when Clair brought out her Kingdra. At first it went okay, I was whittling its health down with Rosso's Twister attack, but he was eventually taken down with repeated Dragon Pulses... Then I brought out Molar (a bit stupid I know, but I thought it was worth a shot) and tried to get him to use Dragonbreath, but he was taken down immediately by a Hydro Pump that caused a Critical Hit. Then I brought out Pell and started alternating between Twister and Fly attacks. I managed to get Kingdra's health down far enough for Clair to use her Hyper Potion, and was doing a decent job of bringing down its health a second time, when Kingdra suddenly unleashed a Hyper Beam. This finished off Pell, so I was forced to bring out Levi again and attack with Crunch. Kingdra got Levi's health down to the red, but Levi won in the end. Finally Clair brought out her second Dragonair and I sent out Tusker. It was going okay, but Dragonair then used Fire Blast, taking Tusker down to just 15HP, and the burn the attack inflicted immediately took care of his remaining health in a rather biased decision on the part of the CPU, IMO. So I then brought out Levi a third time and manage to take Dragonair down with a single Ice Fang, winning the battle.

Not that it made much difference. Clair still can't take defeat like an adult and now I have to "prove myself" by heading into the Dragon's Den behind the gym before she'll properly admit defeat... ¬_¬

12:39am
Well, I answered the Master's questions and he forced Clair to give me the Rising Badge. She still wasn't happy though, as she apparently hasn't passed the test yet herself. I can't help wondering how, however, as the correct answers are pretty easy to determine... Well, unless you're a **** like Silver, anyway. The Master also gave me some info about Lugia before I left, saying that he's resting in the bottom of the Whirl Islands and that I'd need a Silver Wing to get to him. So now I know what pokemon the Kimono Girls have been talking about, I just don't get why they want me to face it... Anyway, back to Blackthorn.

12:47am
Looks like Clair's finally gotten over herself and accepted her defeat. She gave me TM59 Dragon Pulse as an apology. Now to head back to the shrine. Why? You'll see...

12:54am
The Master just gave me a Dratini for answering his questions so well and proving myself worthy. Apparently I would've gotten a Dratini no matter what answers I gave, but for giving the correct ones I got one that knows ExtremeSpeed. I can't think of a decent nickname for him right now, so I'll leave it for the time being.

1:33am
Looks like it's off to New Bark Town. No sooner had I left the Dragon's Den than Prof. Elm phoned me to say that there was something at his lab that I should see. Off we go...

2:01am
The thing Prof. Elm had for me was a Master Ball. That should come in handy. And apparently the Kimono girls have been looking for me. I'm supposed to go to the Ecruteak Dance Theatre to see them, but that'll have to wait until tomorrow. For now, I'm going to get a good night's rest...

Ah, not so. I'm still getting Black/White tomorrow or Friday (depending on when me & my sister's pre-ordered copies arrive), but I'm not planning to actually start playing it for at least a couple of weeks. I'd like to at least beat the Elite Four of SoulSilver (thus finishing the Johto stuff and "beating" the main game) before I start Gen V. Kanto can wait for the time being.

Besides, I still need to decide whether I want to have Black or White as my version...

Saturday 5th March

11:02pm
Okay, off to Ecruteak to finally properly meet with these Kimono Girls.

11:25pm
I just ran into Silver coming out of the Dance Theatre. Seem he just got beaten by the Kimono Girls. It could just be me, but he doesn't seem quite as antagonistic any more... Anyway, it turns out the Kimono girls want to bring back Lugia for whatever reason, and they need someone with the right kind of bond with pokemon. Part of the test to find a suitable person was to give someone the Mystery Egg that hatched into Togepi, so they're the ones that gave Mr. Pokemon the egg in the first place. Now I have to defeat all five of them in turn to fully prove myself. Here goes...

11:46pm
Gah! This bloody Umbreon confused Muscle on the first turn and she hurt herself in her confusion every. Single. Turn. I never got the chance to attack with her... Oh well. Pell managed to avenge her. Good old reliable Pell... I'd like to mention the rather nice sliding door effect that appears onscreen just before you start a battle with one of the Kimono Girls. I just think it's pretty neat. Anyway, second battle...

12:11am
*sigh* These battles would be quite a bit easier if I could just choose which pokemon I want to start the battle with. The second Kimono Girl's Espeon almost took down Levi as a result of that... Oh well. Next battle...

12:14am
Well that went pretty smoothly. Rosso was able to take down the third Kimono Girl's Flareon without too much trouble, though he did get Burned in the process... Three down, two to go.

12:20am
That battle was pretty easy, but annoying. Mostly due to the fact that the fourth Kimono Girl's Jolteon pretty much just spammed Double Team and then kept trying and failing to use Last Resort. Still, eventually I managed to hit it with a Magnitude 9 from Burrows and it went down like a lamp. According to the Kimono Girl, the match was "so close" and she "almost had it". What match was she watching, exactly?

12:33am
****... Thanks to my own overconfidence Tesla got taken down by the final Kimono Girl's Vaporeon. He took most of its HP with a Discharge, and I thought I'd finish it off with Tesla's newly-learnt Signal Beam instead of another Discharge or even ThunderPunch. As a result the Vaporeon was left with a sliver of HP left and finished Tesla off with Surf, having already used it twice and got him down to about 30-40 HP. Still, there we go... I managed to finish it off with Pell. Anyway, after defeating the Kimono Girls, I have been deemed worthy to recieve the Tidal Bell. Now I have to meet them at the Whirl Islands. But first I'm going to stock up on some stuff...

2:17am
Okay, I think I've got everything I need. I won't be fully exploring the Whirl Islands yet, I just want to get in there, get Lugia, and get out as soon as possible. I can come back for items and other pokemon later.

2:34am
Huh... I just entered the small ledge overlooking the area where I'll be taking on Lugia, and I think it's quite impressive how they've managed to give it a real sense of depth. I can't wait to see how stuff like this will look in the Gen VI games that will inevitably come out on 3DS.

2:43am
Blimey, the whole Lugia thing has really been enhanced from the Gen II days. Used to be that you'd just walk up and challenge it. Now there's a big dance, special music, glowing bells, a cutscene of Lugia appearing... All very nice.

Well, here goes nothing... "Gyaaas!" indeed...

3:04am
YOSH! After a fair few resets (including accidentally knocking him out a couple of times), I managed to capture Lugia with the very first Dusk Ball I threw (I never got to the ball-throwing stage in my previous attempts)! How's that for luck? I didn't even need to put him to Sleep, I just Paralysed him with Tesla.

So anyway, the Kimono Girls were all very impressed and think I'm wonderful. Now, I'm getting out of here for a good night's rest. Goodbye all!

Tuesday 15th March

11:43pm
Tonight I'm just going to be exploring the Whirl Islands, so I doubt there'll be much to report. Still, it must be done...

12:36pm
I just caught a Horsea. I'll nickname him later.

12:46pm
Well, all done for today. Tomorrow I'll be heading back down to New Bark Town via Routes 45 and 46, possibly stopping to explore the remainder of Dark Cave while I'm at it, too.

Saturday 19th March

3:37pm
Okay, so I'm a few days late, but whatever. Onwards to Route 45!

3:50pm
I just caught a Teddiursa, whom I'll nickname later. I've also remembered that I need to stock up on supplies...

7:25pm
Finally! I didn't realise Skarmory was so rare. Anyway I caught one, so I'm free to move on to Route 46, and then I'll explore the Blackthorn side of Dark Cave.

8:03pm
Grah! These two route have a really annoying one-way system, so every time I miss something I have to Fly back to Blackthorn.

2:09am
Just caught a Wobbuffet in Dark Cave. Just a few more items to go, and I'll be totally done with Dark Cave. Then it's on towards the Indigo Plateau...

2:20am
All done. I'll head out onto Route 27 and Tohjo Falls either tomorrow or Monday.

Wednesday 23rd March

12:36am
Okay, time to head out onto the final leg of my journey.

12:40am
Some guy just came up to me and said I'd taken my first step into Kanto. *looks at PokeGear map* Well waddya know? He's right!

1:02am
Heading through Tohjo Falls... Hm? What's this? A door behind the waterfall? That wasn't there in Gen II...

1:04am
Bah! It's just some room with a broken radio... Oh well.

1:55am
Okay, on to Route 26...

2:10am
So apparently the Day-of-the-Week Siblings all live in this one house on Route 26. No-one's home right now (even though the door was unlocked...), but I managed to find out where each Sibling shows up thanks to a handy book on the table.

2:20am
Hm... Sounds like Silver's been along here recently. I just battled a trainer who said she was beaten by a red-haired guy that felt to her as if he needed to win at all costs. Certainly sounds like him to me...

2:27am
Mt. Silver to the left of me, Kanto to the right... And both ways currently blocked. Guess it's straight on to Victory Road...

2:29am
Okay, like with the Whirl Islands, this going to be a quick initial run. I just want to get to the other side as soon as possible, so there won't be much exploration for the time being. I can come back for the various out-of-the-way items later.

2:38am
So it turns out that Silver's been doing to the trainers in Victory Road what I've just ben doing to the trainers on Routes 27 & 26: crushing their hopes of facing the Elite 4 and becoming the Champion. Well, that explains why there weren't any trainers in Victory Road... Now, time for the last opportunity to beat Silver before challenging the Elite 4.

2:49am
I really hate that bloody Meganium... It just used Reflect then spammed Petal Dance. Sonata came this close to beating it, too, despite Confusing it right away... Still, Levi was able to vent an entire game's worth of annoyance and frustration at his rival by finishing it off with Ice Fang. All the other battles went pretty smoothly in comparison. I was a little worried about Macroma facing Haunter, but then it finished itself off with its own Curse attack, so that turned out alright. And it seems that Silver's finally beginning to understand why I'm so great and he's such a douche. He's been given so much to think about that he didn't even bother to shove me. Anyway, onwards to the Indigo Plateau!

2:54am
Well, here I am. It'll still be a little while before I challenge the Elite 4, though. I need to choose my team, train them up, and there's also a couple of other loose ends I want to tie up first... Since this is the last bit of the game I'll be doing for now, I won't bother levelling up all my pokemon this time. Just the six I intend to take with me for this last challenge. So, bye for now!

Please stick to your word and start B/W after the E4....

It's painful to see you waste time on this when the best Pokemon game yet waits to be played....

Also if you're going to level up all the pokemon before moving on.... Don't.... There are no rematches.... You will be not be able to level up more that six without serious time.... And you will never beat the E4.... The champion is the strongest champion you'll ever face the first time round.... And B/W has a pretty cool story that would be a shame to miss.... And unlike any Pokemon game before it.... It can be spoiled.... Like serious plot points....

Also pick the girl to see dat ass every fight.... It's beautiful and will increase your sucess 100%.... Probably....

Don't worry about it.

I did say at the end of Wednesday's entry that I was only going to bother levelling up the six I intend to use for the Elite 4. Since I'm not likely to play this again for at least a few months, there really isn't much point in grinding with all the others right now. And I'm going to start Black or White almost immediately after I beat the Elite 4. As for the girl trainer... No. I can see her back sprite on the internet whenever I want.

Apart from anything else, I still haven't decided which version I want to be mine.

I ment in B/W.... There are no rematches.... Only wild Pokemon.... And only one Pokemon that'll give you any XP worth fighting it and it's not too common....

So leveling up Pokemon that aren't your main six will make it much harder to grind up to what you need to beat the game....

If you try to do what you did here you'll never beat the game.... You can still catch them but don't bother leveling them up unless you want to feel pure rage.... Don't waste the XP you get....

You only get the chance to really level up your Pokemon after the E4....
