I remember accidentally using up all my Rare Candies in Blue. Once you used the glitch the number next to the item got all messed up and you couldn't tell how many there were... I had to trade pokemon over to my sister's Red version to take advantage of mulitple Rare Candies...

Speaking of which, how are the pokemon that appear on each route determined? Is it by the number of steps you've taken on that walk, or the number of steps you've taken overall?

You know how some are only available after, say, 2000 or 3000 steps. Like Doduo and Kangaskhan in Refreshing Forest.

I don't know... I always thought it was by a set percentage. Like, there's a 5% chance you'll encounter pokemon A on route X.

It's a combination of the two. Here:

Okay, that makes sense, but after coming back from my walk I left the Pokewalker alone for a long time, and the counter had returned to 0. However, when I actually returned Lightyear to SS, it said I'd taken over 4000 steps, which would be more than enough to find Kangaskhan or Doduo in Refreshing Field.

My question is whether pokemon like that only have a chance of appearing while the pokewalker's counter is more than a certain number of steps, or if the steps are cumulative. Like, if I were to go on another walk in Refreshing Field, could I potentially come across those pokemon right away (having apparently taken 4000 steps), or would I have to take another 2000/3000 steps before I could find them?

Sorry If I'm not making sense...

Sunday 18th April

6:03pm
I just came across another Yanma while training for Ecruteak Gym on Route 35. I knocked it out again... T-T

7:18pm
Well, training is complete. I just need to stock up on supplies and I'll be ready to go.

7:27pm
Well this Gym is rather different. Yes, it's still a narrow walkway over a dark abyss, but this time the whole Gym is blacked out apart from a few lanterns. Also, the abyss has a neat swirling cloud effect. All in all, a very fitting Gym for Ghost-types.

You know what I've just noticed? Each Gym building seems to have different colour highlights on the outside. This gym has purple ones, Goldenrod Gym had pink ones, etc.

7:43pm
Oh, it also turns out that when you defeat a Gym trainer, the light (which is actually on their head) goes out. It comes back if you fall off the walkway, though.

7:56pm
So apparently Morty has surrounded himself with a bunch of mad-looking old ladies. Meh, whatever floats his boat... Time to challenge the man himself.

8:11pm

Sorry, it had to be done. Anyway, the battle against Morty was a walkover, thank you very much Levi and Ratigan. I can now use Surf in the field, and I'm officially safe from traded pokemon not obeying me. I shall be teaching Surf to Levi momentarily.

11:28pm
Okay, at this (roughly) halfway point in the Johto adventure, having obtained Surf, I'm going to take some time and go back through the routes and areas I've already gone through so far and pick up any items or catch any pokemon I may have missed the first time around.

11:42pm
I just came across Sunny of Sunday on Route 37. He gave me a Magnet.

11:45pm
Remember that guard in the gatehouse between Goldenrod City and Route 35? I think I'll run his errand now.

11:49pm
I have to deliver a Spearow called Kenya and the mail it's holding to a guy on Route 31. You have to wonder why the Spearow could just fly the letter to him...

Actually that reminds me. Spearow is one of the pokemon I need to catch...

11:53pm
Well, I delivered the letter and the pokemon, and I got TM44 Rest for my trouble.

12:03am
Blimey... The first rock I smash in Dark Cave, and guess what pops out? Dunsparce. It's supposedly really rare unless swarming, and I came across one straight away...

Anyway, I decided to call her Noka.
