You're basically made to complete mini-caves within a certain time limit while collecting as many teasures and losing as few Pikmin as possible. You also start with a set number/selection of Pikmin but can sometimes change them with Candypop Buds, and have to find a replica of The Key before you can access the next hole/geyser. It can also be played by two people.
I think it's returning in Pikmin 3.
