If any of Nintendo's three major series were going to get axed it'd probably be Metroid. I might be wrong but I don't think it's that popoular in Japan.

I would cry if Nintendo axed Metroid. The games are great, and Samus is my favorite video game female character.
If Nintendo absolutely HAD to scrap the new Zelda game, they better start working on that damn Kirby wii game.

Kirby has unfortunately become a second-tier series in terms of what Nintendo considers to be top-priority.
That needs to be rectified, for Kirby is incredible.
