Also, you might wanna look up a guide if you wanna get all the really cool personas and complete all your social links and all that jazz.
It's actually kind of demanding to get a 100% clear. Or, at least it was when it was FES. I don't know about Portable.

I think I'll be okay because this game has AKIHIKO SANADA. YEAAAAHHHH.
Kinda nervous to play though. Would it help to understand the storyline to have played any Persona games prior?

Mmmnope. The storyline's simple enough, really; though I doubt you'll get all of the symbolism, enough of it should pierce your skull to impart some understanding.
That said, Igor is a recurring character across games, not that that's really a plot point.

I have played it. Never got the chance to finish it, more's the pity. If I had to give them a score, I'd probably place it in the top half of the register. Maybe the top 25% (not counting the MMOs, of course). I really liked it. |

I just beat FES fairly recently. I feel good about ending it at 60-ish hours instead of like 100+. Final boss is one of the worst in any game I've ever played.

I haven't grinded at all so far and I've beat those annoying wind birds. Plus I beat the dancing hands and the Guardian. The guardian was tough, but I beat him with my guy and Junpei. Yukari got killed cause she sucks.
Anyway, I got a few social links, made a few friends and got as far as I could in Tartarus.
However, there was one floor where I was chased by Death. He cornered me and proceeded to one shot my entire team as I did miniscule damage to him. Why such a cheap enemy appeared on the fourth floor is beyond me.
