The only great movies Johnny Depp ever made were the Pirates of the Caribbean ones. And that was more the character than anything.
I have to admit that Tim Burton's gone down the hill though. But he's actually a producer. He almost never has anything to do with the actual making of the film.
Still, his stuff should be dark and funny, not surreal and funny. I just don't like what I'm seeing of the new Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp's getting top billing. As the Mad Hatter. A bit character! I swear if they don't keep at least fairly close to the book itself, I will rage.

I was going to say something about the Pirates movies, but I will refrain because it will do no good.

Tim Burton's Batman movies were great, but that's about all I like of his. Did Burton also direct that Sleepy Hollow movie a few years back too? If so I like that one too. I was going to say something about the Pirates movies, but I will refrain because it will do no good.
what? about them being garbage? 'cause that's what they were. Psh, naw. I thought the first one was excellent, but the second was just okay, and the third was way too long.

It's apparently more like a sequel, not an adaptation. I mean, since it takes place about 10 years after Alice last visited Wonderland...

The sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is Alice's Aventures through the Looking-Glass.
No Wonderland in that sequel.

No Wonderland in that sequel.
The two stories are often combined into one. A prime example being the animated Disney movie of Alice in Wonderland.

I quite enjoyed Edward Scissorhands, again a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp thing.

The two stories are often combined into one. A prime example being the animated Disney movie of Alice in Wonderland. I don't remember anything in that movie coming out of Looking-Glass. ...perhaps... nope, nothing I think most of it is regular Alice in Wonderland stuff, but apparently the bits with Tweedledee & Tweedledum (and therefore the Walrus & the Carpenter) and where Alice sings with the flowers are from Through the Looking Glass. I'm pretty sure the Tulgey Wood and the song you can hear the Cheshire Cat singing could count as well, seeing as the Jabberwock poem first appeared in Through the Looking Glass. Quite a few adaptations have combined the two stories into one and just called it Alice in Wonderland (Wikipedia is your friend here), I just chose the Disney movie because it's probably the most commonly known example. This film, as it's being handled by Disney, could be thought of as a sequel to the animated film, regardless of whether or not that's how Tim Burton intends it to be seen. But my most basic point is that this movie isn't meant to be a direct adaptation of the book. Apart from anything else, this Alice is around ten years older and has apparently visited Wonderland before. Oh, and as for Johnny Depp recieving top billing, that's probably mainly because he's possibly the biggest name in the central cast. The girl playing Alice is a virtual unknown.

Except that this Alice isn't locked in a mental asylum and the Mad Hatter isn't a sociopath who experiments on the inhabitants of Wonderland. And the Cheshire Cat isn't mangy and skeletal with piercings and what looks like tattoos. In fact, there are quite a few differences... Seriously, am I the only one who's looking forward to this movie?
