Except that this Alice isn't locked in a mental asylum and the Mad Hatter isn't a sociopath who experiments on the inhabitants of Wonderland. And the Cheshire Cat isn't mangy and skeletal with piercings and what looks like tattoos.

In fact, there are quite a few differences...

Seriously, am I the only one who's looking forward to this movie?

quite possibly.  Public opinion is down on the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter trio.

Why? The only movie with those three I've heard people saying wasn't very good was Sweeney Tood, and that's just one film.

Granted some are better than others, but I've yet to see a movie with that trio that was actually bad. I mean I haven't seen ST, but it doesn't sound like it's to my personal tastes anyway.

No, people are just sick of it.  It really feels like they're a one trick pony.

Sounds kinda petty to me. Their last movie together, Sweeney Todd, came out just over two years ago now and that was pretty different compared to their normal works. Actually the last movie they did together that seems closest to Alice was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory back in 2005.

I'll see it, I always love Tim Burton's stuff, I'm sure I'll at least like this. I do want him to stop doing all these adaptations and remakes and such though.

Oholo

Seriously though, this oversaturated Wonderland thing has got to go. I HATED Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, mostly because I'd actually seen the original version with a GOOD actor (Gene Wilder, for those of you who might wonder).

Sweeney Todd I liked, though. It's very much his line of stuff. Wonderland...unless it's going to be more like the original books, not so much.

Didn't Roald Dahl disown the original movie?

I doubt it, but if he did, then he probably would've disowned Tim Burton's version even harder.

Why? From what I gather, Tim Burton's effort is closer to the original work.

I've read the original work. It's not.

Care to explain? It's been a while since I read the original book, so...

The original was a children's book. It wasn't anything similar to what might be done by Tim Burton. He remade the movie. He didn't remake the book.

Roald Dahl's stuff was always pretty dark for children's books, though.

Not that dark. The original was more his shade.
