See guys? It's been done before, so it's okay. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with it... It's not like you have to be emotionally invested in the film an din turn care about what happens in it...

It's not the first time that's happened, though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_%28TV_miniseries%29
You know what the difference between that and the movie is?

That was a reimagining. One that took a lot of liberties.

The movie's actually supposed to be a sequel or something. It doesn't work.

Except that Tim Burton allegedly doesn't see it as a sequel or a re-imagining. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Burton%27s_Alice_in_Wonderland#Development_and_writing

Though I'm not sure what else it's supposed to be if that's the case...

To those that have seen the film, does the Alice/Hatter romance play a big part, or is it a fairly minor thing compared to the rest of the movie?

Pretty minor but recurring and extremely **** weird every time it comes up.

And regardless of what Tim Burton wants to call it is a sequel by definition.

Hm... I'm going to see it for myself tomorrow so I'll be able to judge properly after that, but the synopses and character descriptions I've read don't mention any romance between those two.

Then again I've only read wiki pages, so...

Just saw the film, and I thought it was very good. Great performances all around, though I did find it a little difficult to make out what Johnny Depp was saying at times.

And while I can see where people might be getting the idea of Alice/Hatter romance, I thought it was more a case of close friendship.

I think it's best described in the Mad Hatter section here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Burton%27s_Alice_in_Wonderland#Cast (reference point 13)
