Ezio has really manned up in the intervening time. It's possible that in this game he may even be a match for Altair. Running a team of assassin's looks like a lot of fun, especially since you get to order them to do the tedious fetch quests you had to do for the last two games. And I think blowing up the towers is just a fun jab at making you have to climb all the bastards in the last two.
