I heard it was a custom PSP firmware that bypassed credit card entry to download stuff for free.

That's what I heard too; it sounds like the only thing done was stealing stuff from PSN, not form other people. Even still though.

I heard rumors that are way worse than what actually happened tend to spread when companies don't tell their buyers what the hell is going on with their servers.

It's not that big of a problem. It's as easy as canceling the card and ordering a new one, if one feels at risk.

But still. *Shakes head* Sony, Sony, Sony... Sony, I am dissapoint.

They sat on the announcement that this was caused by external influences for nearly a week, and they released the information that personal data had been stolen even later. Damage could have been done long before anyone had the opportunity to learn about what had happened.

This is infuriating. I spent a dollar getting an avatr for PSN when I first got it and now I need to worry about changing my card so that I don't get **** stolen from.

And that's bad. With the information out, it's as easy as getting a new card. The fact that Sony withheld information like that is really terrible though, I agree with that.

That it happened at all risks people believing it may happen again. Sony may be getting sued by those who were robbed, may have to do something drastic to make up for its losses and fewer people will trust them in the future with their personal information; they may use PSN cards instead entering their card numbers, something that's more complicated than just clicking "buy" or whatever, in turn meaning there's less chance of impulse buys. Even if none of that happens, it's not less likely after this.

You've gotta be kidding me.

I've only made a few purchases from PSN (the last being in late 2010) and now I have to worry about this shit too. This isn't acceptable.
