Toonami was directly responsible for the second season of Big O, so I suggest you shut your damn face.

God damn it.... Am I not longer speaking English or something?

What point is there to a toonami timeslot now? Especially a fan made one?

Notice the fact I said now.... Now is the current time.... The present.... In the past Toonami was one of the only ways for people to watch anime but that was the past... There's other stuff doing it now.... And just so we're clear this is the present time.... The past is in the past.... Got that guys? Cause I'm not repeating this shit....

Seriously you two.... Did you miss the part where I said anymore? Toonami was good back then because that's how we first watched anime.... But now something like that would be useless to us now....

It was just a timeslot on a channel that had shows that you can watch elsewhere anyway....

"Anymore" in that context alone could be in reference to Neotoonami or Toonami's legacy, and this quote supports the latter. Obviously, we're going to defend Toonami's legacy since pretty much all of us were introduced to anime by it back in the 1990's. Well, with the exception of you, so it seems. As for your answer, Salty already posted it.

Toonami invokes a lot of nostalgia for people who grew up on it. I am one of those people, I have to admit.

Since you missed this, start taking notes, dipshit. Plenty of things are functionally useless, but that doesn't stop them from being entertaining out of some degree of charm. This is just that; it's not intended to supplant anything else, it's there for the people who want a throwback to what introduced them to anime. Oh, and on another note...

Could Neotoonami do anything? Not really. But Toonami did do something that could cater to even the people who outgrew it. Hell, if Toonami still existed, it would be perfectly useful to kids in the same way it was useful to plenty of us way back when. It could have served as a gateway series for those who don't watch anime in particular; even with all of the resources of today, if I was a kid, I wouldn't come into Toonami with the intention to watch anime, I'd come into it with the intention of watch cool shows that are on at the time. From there, then I'd move on to actually watching anime.

I should calm myself down.... I think I'm going in the wrong direction here....

Well I guess I'll concede that my wording of the first post is rather faulty.... Could have used some more words to distinguish between the points....  I used to watch it.... Well that is to say the shows in it.... I can't say I share the same nostalgia.... Probably because I'm always trying to forget my past....

As for Salty's post.... I felt I didn't need to argue against it as it was pretty spot on.... And Adol replied to that pretty well…. With my second post I was aiming to clear up the shitty wording of my last post.... But from your post I can see I did that.... Yet Salty seemed to misunderstand that one....

My third post was pretty much aimed at Salty but I kinda dragged you guys in.... That was a mistake.... I have a short fuse for Salty's stupidity hence the rather dickheaded tone.... But don't change Salty I still love, honey.... It's kinda fun really.... Probably like angry sex....

Anyway.... With that out of the way let's get back to the topic....

So Toonamai was a good thing.... I know that.... But thanks to it there are other places for anime on TV for kids these days.... Though the available stuff isn't as good.... But that's just the times we're in.... So there's not much need for Toonamai.... It'd only be a brand now.... And if it did come back we'd hate it.... It wouldn't have any of the shows we loved on it.... It would be today's shows....There's no way it could be as influential as it was back then.... The best they could do with it is have a late night spot for the older crowd to nostalgia all over.... I guess that could work....

So Toonamai was a good thing.... I know that.... But thanks to it there are other places for anime on TV for kids these days....

From what I'm told, and maybe I'm wrong, when it comes to anime being broadcast on kids channels, Europe and Canada are light years ahead (or perhaps behind, depending on what is being broadcast) of the United States. I'm relying on information from 2008 right now, but... I highly doubt anything has changed. From the perspective of the United States, Fox Kids hasn't existed for half a decade, and its properties have been moved to Toon Disney's Jetix block, a channel that is slowly being phased into the 100's range. I'm not sure if Kids WB is dead and gone, but 4Kids projects in general are fading away. Surrogate programming for Toonami on Cartoon Network have faded away as well. Adult Swim looks like the only real source of recent anime left from its Wikipedia page, and it seems like they want most of it gone. ABC Family's broadcasts ceased to exist way back in 2004, but maybe that has changed now that Jetix has been moved over to Fox Kids. Straying from kids channels, Tech TV/Early G4's Anime Unleashed has also been gone for half a decade as well. The Sci-Fi channel alternates between having anime and not. Miscellaneous projects as seen from Fuse have all failed, too. As far as anime goes in the United States, it's either in backwater channel that exclusively shows re-runs from things originally broadcast waaaaay back in 2001-2003 or it's over something that had eclipsed anime and is known as a franchise. This is probably a large root between our problem between the value of Toonami here; European nations have quite a few things while the U.S. has very little of anything, especially anything recent.

Though the available stuff isn't as good....

Honestly, not everything that was on way back when was good. Toonami had Duel Masters, two different Zoids anime, Rave Master and a whole bunch of other miscellaneous garbage. Adult Swim had Super Milk Chan and Pilot Candidate, both of which were absolutely abysmal. Outside of Cartoon Network, Fox Kids had things like Shinzo, Medabots and Mon Colle Knights, while Kids WB had fucking Cubix, which is the lowest-rated complete show on MAL. Other channels that are less specifically towards kids like the Sci-Fi channel had a great wealth of some of the worst shows ever (Sci-Fi channel once had fucking Psychic Wars and MD Geist for Christ's sake, along with a million other terrible OVA's licensed during Central Park Media's/Manga UK's gore and porn heyday). Hell, quite a few bad things kinda work when you're a kid; the aforementioned Shinzo (or Mushrambo for the non-dub) and Mon Colle Knights were thoroughly mediocre and I still liked them when I was a kid. I can't say that any line-up today anywhere matches up with the best of Toonami's 1999-2002 programming, but I wouldn't white-wash all of the fail from yesteryear.

I'll actually admit that anime in the West was a phase for broadcasting that has passed on. Essentially, what remains of its legacy today are franchises like the Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, not individual anime. But honestly, when looking at a line-up comprised of nothing more than Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, that's good enough just a kick-start to a kid's career as an anime fan.

I enjoyed Toonami, and it...while it may or may not have introduced me to anime, it was certainly a source of it that I was grateful for. And frankly, these days the only way that you're going to get introduced to anime is the through the internet. There's nothing on broadcast TV for kids that's going to show them even halfway decent anime. And that's one of the things we need back.

To be honest children watching anime on Toonami never really shaped them into anime fans.... Sure I watched it but due to it I was hesitant on watching anime again.... And many people I know watched it but never anything more.... Most seem to brand all anime as the same stuff and because it was shown to them as a child have labelled anime as a child only thing....

Maybe we'd be better off without the whole idea of anime being targeted towards younger generations.... If they browse the internet long enough I'm sure they'll come into anime with the same love.... Just less outsiders will see it as a childish thing and maybe not be turned away....

I WATCHED TOONAMI EVERY DAY AS A KID AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME BECOMING AN ANIME FAN, NOR DO I HAVE ANY NOSTALGIA FOR IT. BUT WHATEVER, THAT'S JUST ME.

Yeah you posted that while I was typing....

But we as adults are pretty well covered for anime.... But if you mean show that anime to kids.... Then I don't think that's a good idea.... People already thing all anime is for kids.... It'll only be worse if they showed that to kids too....

Herf derf. I'd start most kids out on the classics anyways. Trigun, Big O, maybe Tenchi Muyo, maybe a little Cowboy Bebop, and definitely some Gundam (preferably one of the lighter ones, like G). I wouldn't be so stupid as to drop them straight into anything out of the twisted mind of Go Nagai, or Berserk. Rurouni Kenshin's always a good starting point, too.

Toonami is what made me recognize what anime was, and from there I would borrow VHS tapes from my neighbor and watch a few things (emphasis on a few, since most of his collection were CPM works), but then I stopped getting cable, moved away and was stapled to some of the worst dial-up services ever until 2008, so I stopped caring and only started over several years later.

I would not say I got into anime because of Toonami despite watching it, and really I went through an anti-anime phase through most of middle school from some of the dumb stuff they were showing.
