I love Mashima. Subverting a training arc is just so perfect.

I'd completely forgotten about Ultear and Meredy. Nice to see they really have changed, though.
And we finally get an appearance from Laxus' Dad. His guild looks suitably evil. And I'm intrigued by that crazy-looking girl behind him.

HO****
Melody got TITTAYS!
In hindsight I really should've seen that coming. It has been seven years, after all. Depending on how old she was at Tenrou Island, she's probably around the same (physical) age as Lucy and Erza now.

It was really more of a "Does every woman Mashima draws have to have tittays out to HERE?!" thing. Also, what a convenient deus ex machina. I suppose when Ultear showed up I was kinda expecting time magic training, as opposed to...whatever the hell it does now.

I'd rather this than Fairy Tail getting their asses handed to them or them all getting a Natsu-esque last-minute-powerup-with-no-real explanation. Besides, I'm not so certain Mashima doesn't have something else planned with this. I mean, why bother taking away their training time at all if it's this easily rectified? It seems a pretty major thing, even if it did come along at a very convenient time.
And I'm really not about to start complaining about another bit of fanservice in this series.

Poor Mashima. He desperately wants people to start making doujins with his characters.

It's just occurred to me that this powerup might not be foolproof. They all might still have to get used to having so much new power before they can properly use it. Like a normal person suddenly gaining super strength, there might be a learning curve before they learn how not to break everything they touch. And given how accidentally destructive Fairy Tail were known to be before...
