The Puppet Master...is now pulling the strings

So, Random Access Memories is getting its release later this week, but it's been leaked already, so I went ahead and gave it a listen.

I can't help feeling disappointed.  It's been 8 years and this was really the best they came up with?

Even more disappointing is that it wasn't good even after they pulled in a bunch of amazing people to produce it.

It's weird, because I always found the great part about them to be that the music was engaging and fun, but, for the most part it got all muddled, dull, and confusing.  I can understand wanting to turn away from the sort of EDM that's in the mainstream right now...you could say they wanted to start a "New Wave" in electronic music, maybe, but it feels like a misstep.

I'm having trouble articulating my feelings right now, but wanted to go ahead and post something.

Any of you have thoughts?
