Eh, a lot of people get exposure to these games by seeing silly multiplayer videos or excerpts. I have real life friends who I explicitly know don't care about these games regularly send me silly troll-y PvP videos anyway, at any rate.
Back in my underclassman days, when Dark Souls 1 had been out for long enough that you didn't just get an unrelenting stream of co-op sessions if you put a sign down in Anor Londo, I used to use co-op as a means to pace studying and homework. On average, about 5 minutes would elapse between sessions, and most sessions would take 5 minutes as well. During co-op, I'd have time to mull over whatever problem I had last challenged before the session began. It was actually quite an effective strategy that got some pretty good results, but I could never replicate it in the other two games.
