Keep doing what you're doing. I'd say you're exploring the game quite well at your own pace.

But I will say this: don't save Old Yharnam for later. You're at a good level to explore it now, and there are certain...things to be found. Cool lore too.

Well The Vicar Amelia is dead. Always surprised when I kill a boss on my first try, but I think I just had enough stamina to avoid her attacks, and I didn't let her self-healing get out of hand.
I'll go back down to Old Yharnam now if that's the case.

Lol I'd say you're doing pretty damn well to be honest. How does it feel going from Dark/Demon's Souls to this?

It was definitely an adjustment, but I'm enjoying it a lot now. Helps that dodging in this game feels a lot better than the others.
I do think my experience with the other games helps a lot here, though. Just in terms of general feel for which way to dodge certain attacks. Like some of her attacks actually required inward dodging, similar to Smough.
If I "use" her Pendant to get the Blood Gem, will it prevent me from using it elsewhere? Like do I need it?

The Blood-starved Beast is also dead, with thanks to my buddy Alfred. It's nice that NPCs can heal themselves now.
And now I have a chalice to do chalice-y things with, I guess?
Suppose now I can go to Byrgenwerth, as that seems to be the next logical conclusion given that the Healing Church lead turned out to be a biiiiit of a bust.

So I was exploring the area below the church workshop, and I got killed by a dude carrying a sack.... and then I woke up in jail.
I'm in the Unseen Village now, I guess, and I'm not really sure where that is in relation to.... anything else. I think I might be somewhere behind the grand cathedral. I found a lantern and made it out to the street, so like I'm ok, but still. Just gonna keep exploring.
Edit: Found the Tonitrus, so that's neat, I suppose. The street out in front of that prison place dead ends in both directions, which means the only way forward was through the hole in back wall of the basement. I didn't really want to go that way, so I'm back at the HD to recoup and decide what happens next.
Also.... in this prison, and also in the Grand Cathedral, there have been some statues of things that are.... not exactly human, from what I can see. They almost look like the bloatheads from Oolacile, actually. I'm sure they have no significant impact on what goes on around here, though.

i'm sure you are
but seriously, can I break the pendant and still touch the skull? I'm assuming yes since it would probably break the game otherwise

Go for it. It gives you a blood gem I think. You don't need it to progress through the story.

Cool. Well I'm actually gonna take a break from that to play some of Ground Zeroes, but I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow.
Also, thinking back to earlier, when I summoned Alfred for the Blood-Starved Beast, there was a message saying some woman had appeared and had rung a sinister bell. So what does that mean? That's like the sign of an invasion I thought, but I guess since I went straight into the boss fight, nothing really happened.

It means that this enemy is trying to summon an invader. She shows up when you ring a beckoning or summoning bell. If you find her and kill her, then you won't have to worry about an invader coming in.

Huh. Weird. Kind of an odd twist to the idea of summoning.

Yeah, I've only really been invaded a few times. PvP in Bloodborne is weird. It's fun, but there are a lot of annoying things, like having to consume 1 insight every time you summon a player or NPC.

Right? And if you only get Insight from Madman's Knowledge, finding a boss, and killing a boss, wouldn't that mean there's a limited number of times you can summon on a given playthrough?
