i just love how insane sqenix's budgeters are i remember when they were disappointed when tomb raider sold like, 3.5 million copies in the first few weeks. to date, it's probably barely hit 10 million, and that's after what is probably a very sizeable margin of those sales have been on 75%+ discount. good luck selling 10 million copies of a final fantasy game that isn't FFVII in this day and age. |

Two side-ops and a mission tonight. The mission was going really well until I got careless. Like I was picking up the prisoner and an unmarked patrol showed up behind me. Irritating, but I still got a lot of stuff including "A Phantom Pain" which is my new helicopter song. More importantly, base expansion is going well and DD is getting bigger.

I played the Platinum Demo. The only worthwhile part is the combat section where you're actually grown up, and I apparently suck at that. Jumping feels awful and just moving around is kind of weightless? I dunno. Feels like pretty standard JRPG.

That's a shame. Maybe I'll check it out, but eh. Also is it just me or are there like a million backstories to this game? I don't really want to watch the anime and CGI movie just to understand what's going on.
Tbf the only two JRPGs I'm interested in at this point with an actual chance of being released this year are Bravely Second and Persona 5, and I don't even like Persona that much. Nier Automata also looks really good, but its projected 2016 release is dubious at this point. I'm still sort of interested in FF15, but honestly after 10 years you'd think it would look at least like its own game with its own personality. Everything I've seen seems like standard JRPG fare.
Maybe I'm being too harsh. I support Square Enix with this game, because it seems to me that they're really trying to regain their status and to revive JRPGs, but who knows how this will turn out.

Yeah. It could be I'm being too hard on it due to some sort of biases, but I don't know what that would be. I typically have liked the series back in its heyday. I would still prefer that it be a good game, too, I'm just gonna have to hear from plenty of people that it is before I pick it up.
And my guess is that the anime and the movie are more just to tide people over and keep the hype machine going. I watched the first episode of the anime and it was fine. It's only 10 minutes long.
I did stuff in metal gear tonight but I'm really tired and have a headache, so I'll update tomorrow.

I sure did bleed for it, though. Stealth is hard, dammit. I need a better way to get rid of lots of people at a time. And sometimes the sightlines you have to overcome are just brutal.

That's kinda funny. I don't feel like I'm finding nearly as much to say about this game, nor generating nearly as much discussion, as I did with Bloodborne.

Eh. Kinda.
So I successfully used the "Do It" command to cause an enemy commander's Jeep to spin out. Smoke bombed it, swooped in, and put them all on the ground, then fultoned them out. After that, I snuck into the place where the other two commanders were meeting and abused yet another sandstorm to grab another one. Got the drop on the last one by sneaking into a building through a window and then flanking him through an open door.
One of the soldiers I extracted is named Death Platypus.
This was my best mission yet, basically.
