I haven't had signatures turned on in probably 8 years, so technically no one's does.

This game got much more fun once I got Space Jump, and then Screw Attack. It's nice being highly mobile and invincible.

I've killed all the bosses, so now I guess I can go beat the game. Just found the X-Ray Visor, though, so it's tempting to go try to get more pickups. But it's also tempting to just be done.

well I just played what I suspect is the coolest sequence in Control

I'd put this game down after some frustrating boss fights (and the boss fights are still Not Great), but I'm in it to win it now.

The design is just so incongruous at times. The worst offender is a recurring boss that is a large enemy that you have to aim up at to damage. At the same time, this enemy is knocking holes in the floor with attacks that have to be dodged. Falling through the floor is instant death, so your stuck having to look at the floor to see where you're going instead of at the boss that is trying to hit you.

Other fights are frustrating because of the way health works in this game. It doesn't regen over time, instead you have to grab drops from enemies to heal. So some of the other fights are against supercharged enemies, and the game spawns in rank and file dudes I guess so that you can kill them for health? You can also mind control them to make them fight for you, but that is more of a distraction than anything. It just turns these fights into chaotic slogs, though. Like there's an appeal to the combat in this game of being constantly on the move, managing the cooldowns on your gun and your energy recharge, but I wish they had gone in a more interesting route for boss design.

This is making the rounds on Twitter, so here's my attempt at it:

Undertale
Outer Wilds
Hollow Knight
Bloodborne
The Witcher 3
Breath of the Wild
Celeste
NieR: Automata
Mass Effect 2
INSIDE

Honorable mentions: Heat Signature, Overwatch, Destiny 2, Dark Souls, XCOM 2, Hyper Light Drifter.

I suffer from recency bias and I've got some severe blindspots, so I can hardly call this a list of the 10 "best" games, but reflecting on the past 10 years, these are the games that come to mind.

the ones that jumped to mind for me were

Dark Souls
Shin Megami Tensei IV
The King of Fighters XIII
Super Mario Odyssey
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Mortal Kombat (2011)
Diablo III
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

as you can see my taste is bad and recency bias is in full

i could only come up with five games from the last decade that I emphatically liked (could extend to 10 if I include 6-7/10 games, but doing that feels disrespectful to those five) and all but one came out in either 2010 or 2011 so that's a good representation of how often I play new games these days

It is certainly one of those things that tells you a lot about a person's tastes. A sort of "what do you keep on your bookshelf" exercise.

NieR: Automata

I did. I wasn't using this topic as much as a chronicle back then probably.
