It has a great design, but I couldn't get past the terrible typing and lackluster stats. If it had a higher base speed I may have went with it...

Decidueye's stats aren't great but his unique move is pretty cool. It's like Shadow Ball + Mean Look.

Cause I want to use the fire cat that turns into a pro wrestling heel. I'll probably be unable to play this for a while due to me never buying a 3DS, but apparently S/M is getting ported to Switch if the mill is to be trusted so maybe I won't have to wait for emulation to catch up.

The only way to play if you ask me. I went with owl and he's cool. Its a bit too talky in the beginning for my tastes but I think its starting to open up now.

Floyd is the devil.
I SERIOUSLY DREAMT OF FLOYD BEING A KILLER CYBORG WHO RAN 10 TIMES FASTER THAN ANY NORMAL HUMAN, AND THEN KILLED MM, TURNED FEMALE, WENT AFTER ME, AND I DROPPED FROM THE SKYSCRAPER! IT HURTED, BUT I AWAKE CALMLY, THINKING I WOULDN'T SEE YOU AGAIN.

The slow start is probably the number one complaint I hear about the game, you'd think they would've done something similar to the third gen games for tutorials where it was an optional handbook you could open anytime instead of outright forcing it on the player.

I don't even think it's tutorial stuff, the game just decided to try and sort of have characters and some kind of plot, which doesn't tend to go well for Pokemon.

It's both. Definitely feels like they're trying to sell the supporting cast as more than just folks you run into every now and then and have a match with, but they really do slow you down at the start to hit you over the head with quasi-tutorial dialogue along the lines of "oh, and this building lets you do this, and this other building lets you do that..." in a manner not even the first game did. They just kinda justify it and pad it out with generic, second-rate character dialogue and a bit of characterization.

The story is nice, IMHO. I wish it was more like the older games, where you had more freedom to choose where to go and what to do first, but I'd probably end up doing everything by order anyways so I don't mind that much.
My problem is how everything else works out: new Pokemon are unnecessarily rare, their base stats lack synergy with their moves and abilities, no Super Training, you actually need to do a lot of stuff before you can breed for competitive, etc.

I do like the attempt at plot and the move away from Gym Leaders, but I also kinda miss super training. I'm not too far into the game but so far I suppose I'm enjoying it. I really love my Grubbin, since Galvantula was my favorite pokemon in Black 2, but it's gonna take forever to evolve him into his final form which sucks.
