And now, to complement my success at managing to watch and finish Savers earlier this year, I'm going to watch Digimon Adventure for the first time in years. This time, it's subbed, which manages to make it feel even more antiquated.

Taichi is voiced by the same seiyuu as Mamiya. Devimon is voiced by the same seiyuu as Rei. Weeeeeeeeeell, this is gonna get a bit awkward!

No better time to switch to the dub for a bit than during the Etemon arc. gogogo dub Etemon
EDIT: Actually, the two episodes with Apocalymon are so narmtastic in the dub that those are even more fun to watch, but still.

If Digimon Adventure fucks up anywhere, it's with the weight of evolution levels. Enemy Champions deteriorate in strength so rapidly that even rookies can own them. Ultimate level creatures are echelons higher than Champions until said Champions also reach Ultimate, in which case, enemy Ultimates are killed in one strike. Some digimon are inexplicably able to own several digimon at their level until one certain digimon, at or below their level, manages to god mode so much that they can one hit kill them. The Mega level is revealed during the VenomMyotismon fight as a giant "**** you" to the entire party, and then "lol hay we got dem Megas, too!" Oh, and then MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon and Machinedramon are killed in one hit, and Piedmon jobs to an Ultimate after kicking the asses of countless Ultimates and a couple of Megas. riiiiiiiiiiiiight

Claymore 107
Miria is dead. Yay, Worf Effect.
It's effective, but expected. Actually, I thought that she would end up sacrificing herself to save Clare, Deneve and Helen from Priscilla several chapters back. She has been outright stated to be the only member of their team of seven to still be stronger than Clare, so as per shonen tradition, she needed to die. The way she ended up dying was... bleak. But that's Claymore, the manga where Jean, Flora and Undine, all of whom were budding flowers as far as characterization is concerned, end up being killed off consecutively with only Jean's last moment reflecting any semblance of glory. It fits, but... Miria was still a main character; she had more characterization than anyone but Clare. This wasn't a proper sendoff, and since Miria was the most popular living character... well...

Obviously she's not dead. Obviously. Because Phantom. "If you like Lucky Star, then you might like Ninja Scroll!"

She didn't seem like she was in the state of mind to do anything. >_>
Frankly, if she's not dead, I will be **** pissed. That means that all of this was a fake-out in order to artificially elongate a manga that has been suffering from pacing issues ever since the end of the northern campaign.
